HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_029622: Epstein’s “List for Bannon Steve” Email
On June 30, 2019, Jeffrey Epstein emailed his own account a dense list of names, shorthand, and places under the subject “list for bannon steve.” The one page record, HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_029622, shows what Epstein wrote down. Its subject names Steve Bannon, but the email does not show delivery to Bannon, a reply, or why any particular entry was included. media-cdn.rollcall.com

Important Points and Key Takeaways
- The subject indicates that Epstein conceived of a list “for” Steve Bannon. The released email is addressed to Epstein himself. It does not establish that Bannon received or requested the list.
- The email mixes names associated with science, technology, politics, law, entertainment, and business, along with places and unclear fragments. Epstein did not label the entries by category.
- Some entries include full names, including “joscha bach,” “joi ito,” “brian greene,” and “george mitchell.” Other entries give too little information to identify one person safely.
- Several strings contain apparent typing errors. “Barrack,” “barak,” and “barrak” occur in different places and should not automatically be treated as one person.
- Appearance on this list alone establishes no meeting, trip, invitation, shared activity, or misconduct.
What the Email Actually Shows
The released page identifies “J” as sender and an account named “jeffrey epstein” as recipient. The body is a compact series of names and fragments, followed by a confidentiality footer. This page gives no explanation of whether the entries were prospects, contacts, suggestions, memories, or reminders.
The words “for bannon steve” appear in the subject, not in an instruction within the body. That subject is evidence of Epstein’s apparent intention. It is not a transmission record to Bannon. The document does not show that everyone listed knew Bannon, knew one another, or knew why Epstein was assembling names.
The email bears a House Oversight record number. The photographed handwritten page EFTA01624023 bears a DOJ EFTA number. They are distinct records. EFTA01624023 is not the number for this email.
Name and Place Index
This chart reorganizes the page so researchers can search its entries. It is an index of strings in the email, not a roster of confirmed identities. The categories are for navigation; Epstein did not supply them. Apparent misspellings and unresolved short forms remain visible.
| Working group | Entries on the page | Identification limit |
|---|---|---|
| Science and research | Edelman; Set Lloyd; Martin Novak; Minsky; Tata; Susskind; Strominger; Krauss; Hopkins; Randall; Kosslyn; Gardner; Sheldrake; Ramashandran; Goelberg; Demasio; Shristakas; Brockman; Hillis; Kaufman; Seligman; Gould; Saks; Mandelbbrot; Chomsky; Brian Greene; Yau; EO Wilson | Several spellings appear erroneous. Most entries lack a full name. “Set Lloyd” and “Martin Novak” preserve the email’s spelling. |
| Technology, business, and media | Gates; Thiel; Hoffman; Hoie; Sinofsky; Suzlberger; Jes Staley; Joscha Bach; Joi Ito; HBJ; Berge; Miro; Anas; Nathan Feigenbaum; Pritzker; Zagat; Nathan; Ovitz; Rockefeller | “Nathan” also occurs separately from “Nathan Feigenbaum.” “HBJ,” “Hoie,” and “Suzlberger” remain unresolved strings. |
| Politics and public life | Mandelson; Barnaby; Summers; Watson; Axel Bottstein; Karim; Terje; John Kery; George Mitchell; Barrack; Barak; Prince Andrews; Jagland; Clinton; Pastrana; Richardson; Leahy; Jarecki; Schumer; Ranieri; Waheed; Gambat; Ehud; Jacque Lang; Woody; Churkin; Sergey; Castro; Blair; Mette; Midlefafrt; Gergen; Melusine; Margarita; Mabuto; Kashoogi | Adjacent words do not always have clear separators. “Mandelson” appears again later, and “barrak” is also written later. This grouping does not assert that every string identifies a politician. |
| Legal and advisory shorthand | Ruemmler; Weingarten; Amabani; Rochsild; Dersh; Ken Starrk; Karp | Several resemble known legal names, but the spellings and identities require checks against other records. |
| Other short forms and fragments | Raafat; Sultan; Pople; Queen; Pres; King; PM; Barrak | Some may be titles, reminders, or misspellings rather than individual people. |
| Places | Mongolia; Dubai | The email does not say whether these were travel plans, topics, or geographic reminders. |
The source’s punctuation creates parsing problems. For example, “barrack barak,” “gambat ehud,” and “ken starrk karp” appear as adjacent strings. This chart separates some words to aid searching, but the original page controls whenever exact spelling, sequence, or a count matters. “Mandelson” occurs twice. The source also contains the three differing strings “barrack,” “barak,” and “barrak.” media-cdn.rollcall.com
Which Identities Are Better Supported?
The email itself spells out Joscha Bach, Joi Ito, Brian Greene, and George Mitchell. It gives “jes staley,” which points strongly toward Jes Staley while preserving the source’s spelling.
“Barrack” and “barak” appear next to one another. They may refer to Tom Barrack and Ehud Barak respectively, especially because “ehud” appears later. The email does not write either proposed full name in one entry. Likewise, “hoffman” may refer to Reid Hoffman, “dersh” may abbreviate Alan Dershowitz, and “karp” may refer to Brad Karp. Those expansions require evidence beyond the letters on this page.
“Mongolia” and “Dubai” are place names in the email. Their presence does not establish that Epstein or anyone else traveled there.
The Older “Contacts” Email
HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_026631 is a separate email Epstein sent to himself on October 30, 2016, with the subject “contacts.” It contains many overlapping strings, including Susskind, Hoffman, Sinofsky, Sheldrake, Seligman, Saks, Mandelbrot, Mitchell, Kerry, Clinton, Leahy, Ehud, Churkin, Jagland, and “dersh.” It also contains a run of legal shorthand and personal reminders absent from the 2019 page. A DOJ released copy begins at EFTA00813112. media-cdn.rollcall.com
The overlap shows that Epstein reused many names across records separated by more than two years. The differences show that the June 2019 email is not an exact copy of the October 2016 email. Neither record explains whether Epstein copied from another document, edited an earlier list, or assembled names from memory.
The Handwritten Page Is a Separate Record
EFTA01624023 is a photograph of a handwritten page on “Jeffrey E. Epstein” stationery. Some tentative readings resemble entries in HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_029622. Shadows and small writing limit what can be read reliably, and the page’s date and handwriting author have not been established.
The handwritten page has provisionally been read as including “Joscha,” “Joi,” “Jagland,” “Churkin,” “Dersh,” “Karp,” “Dubai,” and “Mongolia.” The typed email provides useful spellings to check against a clearer photograph. It does not prove that Epstein sent the handwritten sheet to Bannon or that the sheet was made in June 2019.
What the Record Establishes
HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_029622 establishes that a June 30, 2019 message from Epstein’s account to his own account contained a list under the subject “list for bannon steve.” It establishes the words visible on that page, including apparent errors and ambiguous shorthand.
It does not establish delivery to Bannon, acceptance by any named person, one common purpose for all entries, or wrongdoing by anyone named. An email transmitting this list, a reply discussing its purpose, or an earlier draft would materially change what researchers can conclude.
Questions for Sleuths
- Is there a message to Bannon attaching, forwarding, or discussing this particular June 30 list?
- Do earlier drafts explain the intended categories or repeated names?
- Can “HBJ,” “Hoie,” “Pople,” “Midlefafrt,” and “barrak” be resolved from another dated source?
- Was the handwritten sheet EFTA01624023 created before or after either typed email?
- Do later messages or calendars document a specific introduction following this list?
