Fact Check: Epstein Emails Mention George Clooney but Do Not Establish a Copenhagen Visit

Snapshot

Verdict Misleading. The cited records do not establish that Jeffrey Epstein visited George Clooney in Copenhagen.
Claim examined A supplied screenshot attributed to Deep Leaks (@DeepLeaksHQ) combines two email excerpts and claims Epstein appears to have visited Clooney in Copenhagen in 2014.
What is supported The January 2010 email chain expressly mentions George Clooney. The August 2014 email has a subject containing the surname Clooney.
Important distinction Mentioning someone in an email, or placing a surname in a subject, does not establish direct correspondence, a meeting, a journey or wrongdoing.
Sources checked A two-page January record and a one-page August record were initially checked using Internet Archive facsimiles. All three cited records, including the fuller one-page August chain, have now been checked through Epstein Data. Its January and shorter August PDFs are byte-identical to the previously inspected copies.
Scope This check assesses the supplied screenshot and identified records. It does not establish that a meeting never occurred or attempt an exhaustive account of every Clooney mention in the files.

Key Takeaways

  • The January chain contains a third-person reference to George Clooney and an earlier header naming Peter Mandelson. Clooney is not identified as a sender or recipient.
  • The August record concerns a redacted correspondent leaving for Nice. It does not say that Epstein met or visited Clooney.
  • The fuller August page records a connecting-flight explanation. The travel statement belongs to the redacted correspondent, whose identity is not established here.
  • The screenshots are not grounds for calling the email excerpts fabricated. The problem is the visit inference drawn from them.
  • The finding is limited: these records do not establish the claimed Copenhagen visit. That is different from proving a visit never happened.

The Claim Being Checked

The supplied social-media screenshot attributes the claim to Deep Leaks, @DeepLeaksHQ. It says George Clooney appears in multiple Epstein emails and presents the Copenhagen exchange as suggesting a visit by Epstein. The composite places a January 2010 excerpt above an August 2014 excerpt, alongside a photograph of Clooney.

The screenshot supplies no direct post URL, complete posting date or visible EFTA page identifier. Its relative time label does not date the underlying emails. This assessment addresses the visible claim, rather than the truncated text after its “Show more” link.

The original screenshot is reproduced unchanged. EpsteinWiki’s separate verdict banner addresses the Copenhagen-visit claim: the emails mention Clooney, but do not establish the claimed visit. Select the image to open the full-size version.

January 2010: Clooney Is Mentioned by Others

Page 1 of EFTA02528876 reproduces a January 16, 2010 exchange. A quoted message invokes George Clooney and asks, in part, “what about George Clooney ?” Epstein replies with the phrase “george clowney.” That spelling is visible in the facsimile; the small social-media crop can make it difficult to read. The question is rendered with an encoding artifact in the word muse in this copy.

An earlier header on the same page explicitly names PETER MANDELSON. That portion is below the January excerpt included in the supplied composite. The surrounding messages concern rewriting a speech and arranging a phone conversation. This is a reference to Clooney within other people’s correspondence, not an email shown as sent by or addressed to him.

The second page, stamped EFTA02528877, contains confidentiality notices. It adds no meeting report. The exchange does not establish that Epstein provided anyone to Clooney, identify a person’s age, or document any conduct by Clooney.

August 2014: What the Copenhagen Email Actually Says

EFTA02587071 is a one-page record dated August 15, 2014, with the subject “Re: Clooney in Copenhagen :).” Its displayed sender is Jeffrey E.; the recipient information is redacted. The quoted earlier message comes from a redacted correspondent and says they are leaving for Nice.

Epstein’s reply begins “now i know copenhagen has intersting girsl.” The misspellings are retained here. It then tells the correspondent to ask a person whose name is rendered “gian=i” whether they should visit agencies on his behalf. The name contains an encoding artifact in this copy. The wording does not say Epstein is travelling to Copenhagen, that he has visited Clooney, or that an agency arranged anything for Clooney.

The subject line contains only the surname Clooney. This record supplies no explicit identification of George Clooney as a participant. Neither the surname nor the surrounding redactions can safely supply that missing link. The full identity behind the name fragment is also not established by this page.

The Fuller Copenhagen Page

The complete one-page EFTA01749205 facsimile on Epstein Data reproduces the fuller August 15, 2014 chain. The redacted writer says they were there for a three-hour connection, had a 5 p.m. onward flight and were already on the plane. They add that they could return and would email Gianni. These are statements by the redacted writer, not an itinerary for Epstein or an identified account from Clooney.

The full page has now been visually inspected, closing the earlier full-page verification gap. Its image clearly reads “3h”; the machine-readable text misreads that as “36”. The shorter EFTA02587071 copy omits this later reply. The first name Gianni does not establish a surname or identity, and the sender’s redactions remain intact.

Evidence Appearances

Record / printed page ID Page and correspondence date Material checked Evidence limit
EFTA02528876 PDF page 1; January 16, 2010 Visually checked facsimile. Epstein Data and Internet Archive PDFs match exactly. Third-person George Clooney reference, Epstein’s reply, and an earlier header naming Peter Mandelson. No direct Clooney correspondence or Copenhagen visit is recorded.
EFTA02528877 PDF page 2 of EFTA02528876 Visually checked continuation containing confidentiality notices. Not another substantive email or independent corroboration.
EFTA02587071 PDF page 1; August 15, 2014 Visually checked facsimile. Epstein Data and Internet Archive PDFs match exactly. Copenhagen subject, Epstein’s reply and the redacted correspondent’s message about leaving for Nice. Does not identify the correspondent as Clooney or describe Epstein visiting him.
EFTA01749205 PDF page 1; August 15, 2014 Complete Epstein Data facsimile visually checked, including the connecting-flight reply. Printed stamps: EFTA01749205 and EFTA_R1_00045883. The redacted writer remains unidentified; their travel statement does not establish an Epstein–Clooney visit.

Why the Visit Inference Is Unsupported

The January reference and the August subject are separate exchanges more than four years apart. Putting their crops together does not create evidence that the same people participated in both. It also does not turn a reference to a public figure into that person’s own communication.

The inspected records contain no statement identifying both Epstein and George Clooney at a Copenhagen meeting, no confirmed visit arrangement and no independent travel corroboration. The references to girls and agencies do not supply the missing identification or establish ages or criminal conduct. Redacted fields remain unknown.

The defensible finding is that the post overstates what these particular records show. A broader conclusion about whether the men ever met would require additional, independently verified evidence.

Verification Method and Limits

The January PDF, the shorter August PDF and the fuller August PDF were retrieved through Epstein Data and checked as page images. The first two files are byte-identical to the previously inspected Internet Archive copies. All four pages across the three records have been visually inspected, including the January continuation. Printed Bates identifiers and visible headers were checked against the screenshot excerpts.

Epstein Data is an independent mirror. These are reproduced records, not native email files with complete transmission headers. No comparison against current DOJ-hosted copies is claimed, and this review is not a forensic authentication of the underlying messages. The evidence does not justify labelling the displayed excerpts fake, but the distinction between a matching reproduction and proof of an alleged event remains essential.

The Epstein Data viewer labels EFTA02587071 “Altered after release” and offers an “Original” mirror link. That is the site’s version-status label; this check has not established what any later version changed. The findings here concern the specific downloaded facsimiles described above.

No statement from Clooney specifically addressing this Copenhagen exchange was located in this check. The absence of a located response is not evidence that the claim is true. Unrelated allegations, celebrity photographs and assumptions about concealed correspondents are outside this article’s scope.
