Who is Freya Willemoes Wissing?
Woven Garnet’s artist profile identifies Freya Willemoes Wissing as an artist born in 1974 and based in Cape Town. Her practice includes painting and printmaking. This profile establishes a public artistic identity under the fuller name. It does not identify her as the passenger in Epstein’s flight records. Woven Garnet
Her archived artist biography describes a Rio de Janeiro birthplace, a Danish father and a Brazilian mother. It states that she moved to South Africa in 1986, attended Sandringham High School in Johannesburg, studied advertising art direction and pursued further art studies at Langeland Kunstskole in Denmark. www.freya.co.za
The distinction between the artist’s full name and the passenger’s shorter name is central to this article. Similar names create a research lead. They do not, by themselves, establish that two records concern the same person.
What the original Epstein flight log shows
The Department of Justice flight log, Part 4 contains the relevant handwritten entry on original log page 67, which is the seventh page of that PDF.
| Field | Recorded information |
|---|---|
| Date | October 27, 1999 |
| Passenger name | Freya Wissing |
| Aircraft model | G1159B |
| Aircraft registration | N908JE |
| Departure | PBI |
| Arrival | TEB |
| Flight number | 1296 |
| Original handwritten page | 67 |
| Position in the DOJ Part 4 PDF | Seventh page |
The passenger’s name appears in the remarks field. The entry records a flight from Palm Beach to Teterboro. It does not provide a date of birth, nationality, occupation, passport number or other identifier that conclusively connects the passenger to the artist. justice.gov
The corresponding flight transcription also places Freya Wissing on the October 27 journey. Its website page number is 43. That number belongs to the website’s presentation and should not be substituted for the original handwritten page number. Epstein’s Black Book
Why the date must be checked against the image
The structured flight transcription assigns the Freya Wissing entry to October 27, 1999, flight 1296. Its next passenger row concerns Jeffrey Epstein on October 29, flight 1297.
Search results can join text from consecutive rows. A snippet may therefore place the name Freya Wissing immediately beside an October 29 date even though the date belongs to the following entry.
The structured transcription identifies the relevant passenger row as 2523. That is a database row identifier, not an EFTA evidence number. thethinkingconservative.com
The original page image is the controlling reference for the handwritten date and placement. Search snippets and searchable text are navigation tools. Their layout can introduce errors.
What the flight entry establishes
The verified finding is narrow: a passenger recorded as Freya Wissing appears on a specific flight in Epstein’s aircraft records.
The entry supports the following points:
- A person was recorded under that name.
- The recorded journey occurred on October 27, 1999.
- The aircraft registration was N908JE.
- The route was Palm Beach to Teterboro.
- The passenger notation belongs to flight 1296.
It does not explain the purpose of the journey or the circumstances in which the passenger travelled.
A flight entry also cannot establish what someone knew about another passenger’s conduct. Any claim about knowledge, involvement or criminal responsibility requires separate evidence.
What the flight entry does not establish
The verified entry does not establish:
- That the passenger was Freya Willemoes Wissing, the artist.
- That the passenger visited Little St. James.
- That the passenger visited Great St. James.
- That the passenger stayed at an Epstein residence.
- That the passenger worked for Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell.
- That Epstein financed the artist’s career.
- That the passenger was a witness, survivor, suspect or defendant.
- That the passenger participated in abuse or trafficking.
- That this was the passenger’s only journey aboard an aircraft associated with Epstein.
These questions remain separate from the existence of the flight notation. The absence of an answer in the records examined should not be converted into either an accusation or a definitive clearance.
Is the passenger conclusively identified as the artist?
The identity match remains unresolved.
The public artist profile uses the fuller name Freya Willemoes Wissing. The flight record uses Freya Wissing. Neither source supplies a verified connection between the two identities. Woven Garnet
| Name or wording | Source context | Evidentiary status |
|---|---|---|
| Freya Willemoes Wissing | Contemporary artist profile | Identifies the artist |
| Freya Wissing | Archived artist biography | Used in the artist’s professional biography |
| Freya Wissing | October 27, 1999 flight entry | Identifies the recorded passenger by name only |
| Expanded artist name in circulating Epstein lists | Online compilations | Does not independently establish the identity match |
A conclusive match would require additional evidence, such as an attributable statement, correspondence, testimony or a document containing independent identifying details.
No such confirmation was established in the sources examined for this article.
Documented artistic career
The archived artist biography provides the following selected chronology. These are professional biography entries, rather than evidence of an Epstein connection.
| Year | Biographical entry |
|---|---|
| 2002 | First solo exhibition at João Ferreira Gallery in Cape Town |
| 2003 | Finalist in the Brett Kebble Art Awards |
| 2004 | Group exhibition at Art On Paper Gallery in Los Angeles |
| 2006 | Trees by Freya exhibition at VEO Contemporary in Cape Town |
| 2007 | SASOL Wax Art Award finalist |
| 2008 | Mandela portrait associated with a Paris charity event |
| 2009 | Art assistance work with Chayan Khoi |
| 2012 | David Krut internship and participation in Creative Block |
| 2013 | Third place in Premio Open Art in Rome |
The biography also mentions Venice in 2009. That statement alone does not establish participation in an official national pavilion or a particular programme of the Venice Biennale. www.freya.co.za
The dates and locations in an artistic biography cannot establish who financed the activities. They also cannot connect later exhibitions to a flight recorded in 1999.
Love Unbound and the 2024 artist discussion
The Association for Visual Arts event record documents a November 9, 2024 discussion with Ashraf Jamal about Willemoes Wissing’s exhibition Love Unbound.
The gallery describes the exhibition as addressing love, marriage, feminism, equal marital rights and polyandry. Its discussion concerns women’s freedom to choose family structures and challenges to conventional expectations about partnership. Association for Visual Arts
This is a documented part of the artist’s public practice. The gallery record does not discuss Epstein or identify the artist as the passenger in the 1999 flight log.
The subject matter of an exhibition is not evidence of a personal connection to Epstein or his crimes.
Public exhibition records in 2026
Southern Guild’s exhibition announcement names Freya Willemoes Wissing among the artists included in Exploded View: Edoardo Villa and Twenty First Century Sculpture at BlackBrick Gardens in Cape Town.
The exhibition opened on February 20, 2026. Ashraf Jamal and Gerard de Kamper curated the presentation, which brought Villa’s work into conversation with contemporary South African sculpture. southernguild.com
Woven Garnet’s Tethered Ground profile supplies another contemporary exhibition reference for the artist. Together, these gallery records document continued professional activity under her fuller name. They do not resolve the flight passenger’s identity. Woven Garnet
Financial records and the limits imposed by redactions
The Shoppers Travel evidence compilation is a separate documentary lead. The inspected copy is a 19 page accounting report bearing an April 27, 2016 generation date.
The relevant evidence sheet is the fifteenth page of that compilation. Its visible document identifiers include EFTA01266008 and SDNY_GM_00006075. Names in relevant historical transaction rows are redacted in the inspected release. media-cdn.rollcall.com
The report generation date must be distinguished from the transaction dates. A report printed in 2016 can contain invoices from earlier years.
The redacted release does not provide a publishable basis for assigning those rows to the artist. This article does not restore the concealed names or treat an older version as permission to identify a redacted person.
An accounting entry also requires careful interpretation:
- An invoice is not necessarily proof that payment was completed.
- A travel invoice is not necessarily a cash payment to a traveller.
- A transaction date is not necessarily a departure date.
- A booking does not necessarily establish that a journey occurred.
- A name association does not establish the purpose of travel.
- A travel expense does not establish employment, patronage or criminal involvement.
The financial compilation should therefore remain a separate evidence lead. It should not be presented as conclusive identification of the flight passenger.
Evidence identifiers and document locations
Different repositories use different identifiers for the same material. An original page number, a website page number and a database row number are not interchangeable.
| Record | Identifier or location | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Original handwritten flight log | Page 67 | Locates the original notation |
| DOJ flight release | Part 4, seventh PDF page | Locates the image in the official release |
| Flight transcription website | Page 43 | Locates the secondary transcription |
| Structured passenger transcription | Row 2523 | Locates the transcribed passenger row |
| Shoppers Travel compilation | EFTA01265994 | Identifies the accounting compilation |
| Individual accounting sheet | EFTA01266008 | Identifies a page within that compilation |
| Earlier accounting sheet stamp | SDNY_GM_00006075 | Additional document reference |
The accounting EFTA identifiers do not identify the flight page. No verified EFTA identifier for the handwritten Freya Wissing flight entry was established in this review. justice.gov
Circulating lists and unsupported island claims
Maldita’s investigation of a circulating Epstein list found that an image presented as an official list had circulated since at least 2020 and did not appear among the official documents examined for that fact check.
The investigation also explains that a name appearing in Epstein related material does not establish that the person committed a crime. Maldita.es
A circulating list cannot replace the underlying record. Its inclusion of a fuller name does not explain how the compiler identified a passenger.
The verified October 27 flight was between Florida and New Jersey. Describing that entry as evidence of an island visit changes what the record actually says.

The Jeffrey Epstein litigation index provides broader context for the proceedings and document collections associated with Epstein.
A person’s appearance in an exhibit should be evaluated according to that exhibit’s contents and purpose. Inclusion in a court file does not automatically make the person a party, witness, defendant or subject of an allegation.
Key takeaways
- The original flight log contains a genuine entry for Freya Wissing.
- The verified date is October 27, 1999.
- The recorded route is Palm Beach to Teterboro.
- The entry belongs to flight 1296 aboard N908JE.
- The artist’s fuller identity remains unconfirmed as the passenger.
- Different page and row numbers refer to different presentations of the records.
- The Shoppers Travel compilation is a separate lead with relevant names redacted.
- The verified flight does not establish an island visit.
- The evidence examined does not establish criminal involvement.
- Further reporting should preserve the distinction between a name in a record and a conclusively identified person.
Outstanding questions
- What independent evidence identifies the passenger recorded as Freya Wissing?
- Has the artist made an attributable public statement about the entry?
- What was the purpose of the October 27, 1999 journey?
- Are there additional verified entries under the same name?
- Can any correspondence explain the passenger’s relationship to the other travellers?
- Is there a verified EFTA identifier for the original handwritten flight page?
- Can any financial connection be established without identifying a redacted person?
- Do later releases contain evidence that changes the current identity assessment?
