David Mitchell and Jeffrey Epstein: The Arrangement Records

Snapshot

  • The June 5, 2013 dinner emails show Lesley Groff telling Epstein that David Mitchell accepted a party comprising Epstein and “5 girls.” Mitchell raised the need for a second car. The correspondence documents dinner and transport planning, but gives no ages and does not establish that the outing occurred
  • The November 2017 Life Hotel chain shows Mitchell agreeing to house a woman described as Epstein’s friend. His instructions, a hotel confirmation for US$0 and a message Groff relayed from the guest support a complimentary reservation and subsequent use of the hotel
  • The August 2018 arrangements involved two paid rooms and requests for Mitchell’s rate and free VIP upgrades. One cancellation was reversed; another cancellation was requested after a missed flight. A booking, a payment and an occupied room are different evidentiary steps
  • The career correspondence shows Epstein introducing an aspiring architecture intern to Mitchell, then demanding greater responsiveness and offers of help from the applicant. A September 2015 hotel employment report goes further, saying a female applicant understood she had the job and was discussing when to start. Neither episode establishes a sexual condition
  • Lesley Groff’s June 2026 testimony includes denials that she scheduled massages for David Mitchell or witnessed him abuse or assault young women or girls. Those answers describe her asserted knowledge and conduct, not a judicial finding
  • The identity record identifies the relevant David J. Mitchell with Mitchell Holdings. He is not Senator George Mitchell. The records reviewed through October 1, 2026 establish practical assistance with hospitality, transport coordination and career introductions, but do not establish that David Mitchell recruited minors, arranged sexual encounters or committed an Epstein related crime

The David Mitchell in these records

The March 2005 SEC filing names David J. Mitchell as president of Mitchell Holdings LLC in its management biography. Contemporary reporting on Life Hotel identifies David Mitchell of Mitchell Holdings and Stephen Hanson with the hotel’s renovation at 19 West 31st Street in Manhattan. The June 20, 2017 report supplies an independent bridge between the business identity and the property in the emails.

Mitchell’s November 2017 reply carries the Mitchell Holdings signature beneath his agreement to arrange a room. The January 2019 Life Hotel correspondence provides another direct link between David Mitchell, Mitchell Holdings and the hotel. A November 2013 schedule lists separate appointments for David Mitchell and Senator George Mitchell. Allegations, testimony and records concerning the senator cannot be transferred to the developer because they share a surname.

The central question is what David Mitchell actually did in the arrangements that survive: who asked him for help, what he agreed to, who carried out the details and how far the records establish completion. The answer varies by episode. The evidence is strongest for hospitality administration and weaker on what happened after the arrangements were made.

June 2013 dinner for Epstein and five girls

Mitchell’s own June 5 message told Hanson, with Epstein copied, that he had three restaurant reservations at 7:30. His answer to Epstein’s headcount question said he had booked for four, allowing for Epstein to invite someone. Those messages preceded the request to add five companions and help explain the later concern about reservation capacity.

Groff’s first message to Mitchell on June 5, 2013 asked whether Epstein could bring five girls to dinner that evening. Her message to Epstein then reported that Mitchell was agreeable, wanted to leave Epstein’s house at 7 p.m. and thought eight people would be too many for one car. Groff said she would coordinate with Stephen Hanson, who Mitchell said had offered another car.

The message to Epstein’s driver locates the proposed restaurant outing in Williamsburg. Groff’s separate email to Hanson repeated the party size and request for another car. These records make the chain of responsibility visible: Epstein supplied the requested guest count, Groff relayed it, Mitchell accepted it and raised the transport problem, and Hanson was approached to provide additional capacity.

Erin Pepper’s reply said Hanson would bring his car and driver, who knew Brooklyn. She also relayed a concern that Mitchell’s existing reservations might not accommodate five additional people. Groff’s later answer said she had told Mitchell the number earlier and he had said it was fine. The final timing exchange proposed 7:15 for Hanson’s arrival with the car. The correspondence therefore contains both agreement and continuing adjustments, rather than a single finalized itinerary.

The word girls is the correspondents’ description. These emails provide no ages, identities, recruitment history or account from any of the five. They do not establish that the group consisted of minors, that Mitchell introduced them to Epstein, or that dinner involved sexual activity. They also do not contain a restaurant bill, a driver’s completed trip record or a subsequent participant account confirming attendance. What they do show is Mitchell helping accommodate a group Epstein proposed to bring.

Career introductions and applicants’ own accounts

The January 15, 2014 exchange preserves a redacted correspondent thanking Epstein for introducing them to Mitchell. The correspondent said a meeting was arranged for the next morning and that examples of past projects were being prepared. Epstein’s quoted message complained that the correspondent had not been in touch or asked how they could help him.

The January 16 account said the meeting had taken place. The correspondent described Mitchell as very nice, said he discussed projects and firms, and expected introductions for architecture internships. Epstein’s response again faulted the applicant for not offering him help, questioned whether he would continue helping and criticized the applicant’s approach to obtaining an internship. The exchange records both the correspondent’s appreciation for an opportunity and Epstein’s use of that assistance as a reason to demand greater reciprocity. It does not specify what help he expected or state a sexual condition.

The later architecture correspondence shows Mitchell sending links to two firms on January 27. The next morning the correspondent asked whether to approach them directly or wait for an introduction from him. Mitchell forwarded that exchange to Epstein. This confirms that firm information was supplied, while introductions were still being requested. It does not confirm an internship placement.

The September 2015 hotel employment chain provides a more advanced hiring account. Geoffrey Allan Mills, signing as president and CEO of GAM Hospitality Management, told Mitchell that he had met a female applicant and discussed revenue support and administrative work. He reported that she understood she had the job, asked about starting on the fifteenth and had been introduced to another staff member to prepare for work at the hotel. Mitchell forwarded the report to Epstein, who thanked him. The hotel is not named in the file. This is a contemporaneous report of a secured job and preparations to begin, rather than proof of a worked shift, payroll entry or actual September 15 start.

The January 2016 interview correspondence shows Mitchell checking with Rob Morrison about meeting a redacted female candidate. Morrison said an appointment had been cancelled and he was waiting for her to reschedule. The woman told Epstein that a changed flight conflicted with the appointment and that Morrison was aware of the problem.

The following day’s assessment records Morrison saying he and a colleague had spoken with her. He described a mismatch between her interest in design and the sales work under consideration. He suggested a showroom assistant role with training, saying she could be hired in a different capacity from the one Mitchell had indicated. Mitchell forwarded this to Epstein; Epstein expressed displeasure to the woman, who apologized. The record contains a prospective employer’s assessment, not an independently verified judgment of her abilities or proof that she accepted or began the job.

The April 2017 email contains a redacted correspondent’s uncertainty about whether Mitchell intended to hire her. She said he had asked about Excel and wondered whether to take office administration or CAD courses. Epstein forwarded her message to Mitchell, describing her as outside his inner circle and saying it would be acceptable if Mitchell did not think she was suitable.

Mitchell’s May 1, 2017 explanation emphasized Excel, PowerPoint, bookkeeping familiarity and relevant experience. Epstein’s earlier question in the chain speculated about appearance and a modeling background, but Mitchell’s answer gave workplace skills as his concern. It would misstate the exchange to attribute Epstein’s speculation to Mitchell.

These documents show access to work and professional contacts being mediated through Epstein and Mitchell. The applicants’ preserved messages express ambitions, gratitude, uncertainty and explanations for scheduling difficulties. The 2014 correspondent’s gender is not established in the cited files; the 2015, 2016 and 2017 exchanges refer to female candidates. Their ages are unstated, and redactions do not establish whether the different employment exchanges concern the same people. The correspondence does not connect these applicants to the five dinner companions or later hotel guests.

An earlier hotel suggestion remains only a proposal

The April 2016 correspondence contains an earlier reference to Mitchell as a possible source of accommodation. After a redacted correspondent described refusing to let an intended guest upstairs, Epstein suggested she could stay at Mitchell’s hotel and directed someone to ask. The record names no hotel and shows no request reaching Mitchell, acceptance, reservation or completed stay. It therefore cannot establish a Life Hotel booking or be treated as equivalent to the later confirmed arrangements.

November 2017 from an apartment to a complimentary hotel room

Epstein’s November 17 instruction asked Groff to call Mitchell and put a woman at Life Hotel that night if space was available. Groff replied that she had arranged apartment 3M and would ask about a hotel room instead. This was an accommodation change initiated by Epstein.

Groff’s request to Mitchell described a friend of Epstein arriving in New York that evening and flying home the following evening. Mitchell replied, “I will make it happen.” His instruction to general manager Denise Luna requested a VIP room, suggested room 1004 or a King Deluxe option, and specified “She is my guest so no payment collected.” Luna subsequently confirmed the reservation. The suggested room number is not proof of the room ultimately assigned.

The hotel confirmation lists arrival November 17, departure November 18, one adult, zero children and US$0 in room charges including tax. Its adult field is a reservation classification, not an independently verified birth date. The document does not provide the guest’s exact age.

Groff’s message to Epstein explicitly said Mitchell was not charging him for the room and asked permission to forward the confirmation. Epstein approved. The apartment correspondence then told a redacted recipient the woman would no longer stay in 3M and asked for the obsolete welcome letter to be retrieved or destroyed. That instruction sits in a documented change of lodging; the record does not establish an additional purpose for it.

The car service exchange moved the November 18 airport pickup to Life Hotel. CARosa’s Teresa Goodyear confirmed a 3:45 p.m. pickup for JFK. The chain contains an earlier quote of US$170 plus the driver’s gratuity, but no completed service receipt. Mitchell’s late checkout agreement followed Groff’s explanation that the car would not arrive until midafternoon.

The November 18 guest message is the strongest evidence that the hotel arrangement moved beyond a reservation. Groff wrote to Mitchell, copying Luna, and relayed a guest’s praise for the hotel’s history, rooms and New York experience. Luna thanked her for sharing it. This is contemporaneous evidence of use attributed through Groff. It is not a hotel registration card or the original guest email, and it supplies no allegation of sexual activity or mistreatment.

August 2018 two paid rooms and a changing itinerary

Epstein’s next hotel instruction was sent late on August 5, 2018 in New York, appearing as August 6 in its UTC header. He asked that a guest and her friend be placed at Life Hotel instead of apartment 301. Groff’s ensuing request initially sought one room for two of Epstein’s friends, from August 7 through August 10 with late checkout.

The August 6 exchange changed that to two rooms. Mitchell asked whether the stay was complimentary; Groff said Epstein wanted two rooms and they would pay. Mitchell introduced hotel manager James Bryant, asked for his rate on both rooms and requested VIP upgrades without an additional charge. Bryant said he would make the reservations and supplied a payment authorization form, which Groff forwarded to Bella Klein. The requested free element in this episode was the upgrade. The records describe the rooms themselves as paid, but do not confirm the final nightly rate or delivery of an upgrade.

Klein’s first cancellation request arrived later that morning with a payment authorization attached. Bryant’s acknowledgment said one reservation had been cancelled and payment applied to the other. That was not the end of the sequence.

Groff’s evening revision said the cancelled guest could now come and asked for her king room again, preferably near the other guest. She supplied different arrival days and requested departure on August 12. Front office manager Jaymes Nguyen confirmed reinstatement, the revised departures and payment applied to both reservations. The next morning’s exchange moved both departure dates back to August 11.

Groff’s August 7 summary told a redacted correspondent that Epstein had requested the hotel instead of the apartments, the rooms were confirmed and paid, and the guests could give their names at reception. It listed one king room for August 7 through August 11 and another for August 8 through August 11.

The hotel message request adds another operational detail. Groff reported that one guest had landed but could not be reached and asked the front desk to tell her to call Epstein when she arrived. Bryant confirmed that a note had been placed in the reservation. This supports an arrival report and a message arrangement, but is not an explicit acknowledgment that the guest checked in.

The airport car correspondence originally requested an August 8 pickup for another intended guest, with billing to Epstein’s card on file. Groff then asked to cancel it, and CARosa agreed. The August 8 hotel exchange said a guest had missed her flight and asked to cancel the room. Bryant asked whether all nights should be cancelled. Groff’s answer said yes and that the guest was not coming.

The retrieved sequence ends with that final request, rather than a hotel acknowledgment executing it. It does not supply a refund, final folio or occupancy record for the other reservation. The supported account is therefore two paid bookings, a processed cancellation, reinstatement, revised dates and a later request to cancel all nights for an intended guest who reportedly missed her flight. It would be inaccurate to say simply that both women stayed or that both bookings were cancelled.

Ages and experiences must stay attached to the right record

The November reservation classified the guest as an adult. The June 2013 dinner emails and August 2018 accommodation emails supply no ages. The word girls, a modeling reference or discussion of further education cannot independently establish that someone was a minor.

The November 17 apartment thread includes an older discussion of household staff taking leave for a family birthday. That age reference concerns another person in a different context. Groff’s separate family invitation mentions her son in plans for a December holiday outing. Neither detail establishes the age of an anonymous Epstein hotel guest.

Groff’s November 19 request to Epstein asked whether she could accept Mitchell’s hotel offer for that family outing. Epstein approved. That document is separate from the November 17 confirmation for the anonymous woman. Combining them would collapse different guests, purposes and dates.

The hotel guest’s favorable message gives a limited account of her experience and cannot establish the nature of her relationship with Epstein. The career correspondent’s gratitude similarly cannot settle whether other aspects of that relationship were beneficial or harmful. No reviewed first person account identifies a sexual encounter with David Mitchell, and the absence of such an account in this source set is not proof about every possible event.

Financial ties provide context without proving a sexual arrangement

The September 2018 correspondence records Mitchell asking Epstein for a US$46,000 short term advance for hotel payroll. Later messages in the same file use a US$50,000 wire subject and ask when US$50,000 would be repaid. The distinction matters: the original request and the later repayment figure are different amounts. The file supports a lending relationship around hotel expenses, without establishing a sexual purpose for it.

The February 2019 request says Epstein had agreed to a US$100,000 advance. The later repayment correspondence goes further than the initial request: Richard Kahn pressed for repayment, and Mitchell acknowledged that the money was overdue. These exchanges support an outstanding debt, although they are not a bank settlement record or evidence of its ultimate repayment.

Neither loan chain identifies a payment to a woman for an encounter. The hotel favor, the employment introductions and the lending relationship should be examined together as evidence of practical ties, while keeping the purpose and completion of each transaction separate.

Responses and the limits of the legal record

The Real Deal’s March 18, 2026 report said Mitchell and Hanson did not respond to its requests for comment. That is the outlet’s account of its reporting process. It is not a denial, an admission or a claim that a new request for comment was made for this article. No direct public response by David Mitchell to the two focal dinner and hotel emails was located in the reporting reviewed.

Groff’s June 9, 2026 House interview provides a different kind of response. Asked whether she scheduled or arranged massages at Epstein’s properties for a list of people, she answered no when David Mitchell was named on page 42. The later questioning asked whether she witnessed listed people abuse or assault young women or girls; she again answered no for Mitchell on page 51. These are Groff’s statements, not Mitchell’s, and the standardized list of names is not itself an allegation against everyone on it.

The official release notice dates publication of the transcript to June 23, 2026. The distinction between interview date and release date matters when placing the testimony alongside older correspondence. Groff’s denials do not erase the accommodation emails, while the emails do not contradict her specific denial of scheduling a massage for Mitchell. The records concern different actions.

The July 18, 2019 bail order also records Epstein’s lawyers proposing David Mitchell as an additional surety who would pledge investment interests in two properties. The order names him without a middle initial or company. The court denied Epstein’s release, so the proposal must not be described as Mitchell having posted bail. It was part of a proposed release package, not a criminal allegation against the proposed surety.

The research reviewed through October 1, 2026 found no Epstein related criminal charge or judgment against this David Mitchell. This is a bounded finding about the sources checked, not a certification of all court records or a declaration that a court cleared him. The hotel and dinner records alone do not establish criminal wrongdoing.

Key takeaways

  • Mitchell’s role is documented in practical detail: accepting a proposed dinner party size, addressing car capacity, arranging hotel access, requesting preferential treatment and facilitating professional contacts
  • The November 2017 room was complimentary. The August 2018 rooms were described as paid, with requests for free upgrades. Treating all the hotel stays as free would misstate the evidence
  • The November guest’s relayed feedback supports use of the hotel. The August chain establishes reservations, payments and changes, with important gaps about final occupancy and cancellation
  • The women’s ages cannot be supplied from the word girls or from unrelated family references. The November adult booking field is the only explicit guest age category in the central hotel confirmations discussed here
  • The career correspondence records applicants seeking opportunities and Epstein pressing for responsiveness and reciprocity. The 2015 hotel chain reports a secured job and preparations to begin, while the other episodes document meetings and employment discussions. None establishes a sexual condition; the actual employment start remains unconfirmed
  • No reviewed record establishes that David Mitchell recruited women or minors for sexual exploitation or arranged a sexual encounter. Groff’s later denials and the absence of a located charge must be reported without turning either into a judicial exoneration
