Introduction
Ashley E. Eiler appears in released Epstein records as a Wiley Rein lawyer representing Alan Dershowitz in Florida civil litigation. The September 8, 2015 motion to compel names her among his attorneys in Edwards and Cassell v. Dershowitz. The case concerned defamation claims and counterclaims. This article traces her documented role and separates a lawyer’s listing from authorship, courtroom participation, and findings about the underlying dispute.
Key Takeaways
- The February 2015 discovery responses list Eiler separately as “Of Counsel.” Their service certificate is dated February 23, 2015; the federal exhibit was filed March 24, 2015.
- A Broward docket entry records a March 13, 2015 order granting her pro hac vice admission. Later counsel blocks use that label.
- The April 11, 2016 certificate lists her as a recipient for Dershowitz. It does not make her the author of the notice.
- The April 2016 appendix separates Dershowitz’s attorneys from Epstein’s. Being listed in an appeal with Epstein in its caption does not make Eiler his lawyer.
Professional Background and Case Context
Wiley’s professional profile identifies Eiler as a partner as of October 17, 2026, and describes insurance and professional liability litigation work. It also records her service as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maine from 2018 to 2022. The firm’s May 16, 2022 announcement says she returned as of counsel. Those later career descriptions are separate from the “Of Counsel” label on the 2015 filing.
The Florida motion’s caption and counsel block identify Edwards and Cassell as plaintiffs and counterclaim defendants, and Dershowitz as defendant and counterclaim plaintiff. Eiler appears with Richard A. Simpson and Mary E. Borja of Wiley Rein, alongside other firms. The documents establish whom she represented; they do not show how the lawyers divided the work.
February 2015 Responses and March Admission
The House Oversight packet beginning HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_014084 contains a federal exhibit filed March 24, 2015 in Doe v. United States, No. 9:08-cv-80736-KAM, Document 319-1. Inside it are Dershowitz’s objections and responses to Edwards and Cassell’s initial document requests in the Florida case. The response begins on PDF page 16, HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_014099.
On PDF page 27, HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_014110, Eiler is listed under “Of Counsel.” Thomas E. Scott is the named electronic signer. The next page’s certificate states that the responses were served on February 23, 2015. These dates distinguish the original responses from their later filing as a federal exhibit. The objections are a party’s positions, not rulings that a court accepted them.
A December 27, 2015 printout of the Broward docket records a March 13, 2015 order granting Eiler’s pro hac vice admission. The entry appears on PDF page 11, EFTA00594030. This supports the admission date, but the printout does not include the underlying one-page order. It also does not establish which hearings she attended.
September 2015 Discovery Motion
EFTA00603608 is Dershowitz’s motion to compel document production and complete answers to written questions, filed September 8, 2015 in CACE 15-000072. It asked the court to overrule objections and require further discovery. The 129-page packet includes exhibits; it is a request for relief, not the court’s decision.
The counsel block on PDF page 17, EFTA00603624 lists Eiler, Simpson, and Borja with pro hac vice labels. Scott’s electronic signature appears above the block. The page supports Eiler’s place on the legal team, but it does not identify her as the sole author or show that she personally argued the motion. The record reviewed here does not establish the motion’s final disposition.
April 2016 Dismissal and Service Records
The stipulation filed April 8, 2016 states that Edwards and Cassell’s claims against Dershowitz, and his counterclaims against them, were dismissed with prejudice. Each side was to bear its own fees and costs. Eiler is listed as pro hac vice counsel on PDF page 8, EFTA01085847. The stipulation resolves those mutual claims; it is not a judgment on the underlying abuse allegations.
The April 11 notice by the plaintiffs and nonparty Virginia Giuffre says that Giuffre’s pending motion to strike and for sanctions remained for the court to hear. Its certificate states that a copy was served by email on April 11 and lists Eiler with the Wiley lawyers as counsel for Dershowitz. That certificate is PDF page 18, EFTA00592805. The notice later became Document 117-2, filed April 21, 2016 in Giuffre v. Maxwell. The certificate records service; it does not show that Eiler wrote the notice or personally read it.
The appellate appendix, bearing an April 27, 2016 service certificate, accompanied the appellees’ motion to dismiss appeal 4D15-4527 as moot. Its caption is Epstein v. Edwards and Cassell, but its service list identifies Eiler’s group as attorneys for Dershowitz and lists Epstein’s lawyers separately. The appendix includes the April 8 stipulation. It is not a final appellate order, and the reviewed packet does not establish the appeal’s final disposition.

Limitations and Open Questions
This is a review of the cited public records through October 17, 2026, not a complete account of Eiler’s career or every filing in these cases. The sources identify her client and listed capacity. They do not establish each document she drafted, which depositions she attended, or which arguments she personally made.
The reviewed records do not establish misconduct by Eiler or a social or financial relationship between her and Epstein. They also do not supply the underlying admission order, the final result of the September discovery motion, the later decision on the remaining sanctions motion, or the final appellate disposition. Later filing or release of an older document is not a new act by its listed lawyers.
Conclusion
The records support a specific professional connection: Eiler was among Dershowitz’s lawyers in the Edwards and Cassell civil case. The sequence runs from a February 2015 counsel listing, through a recorded March admission order and September motion, to April 2016 dismissal and service documents. Those records explain her presence in the released files without establishing personal involvement in Epstein’s crimes.
