David Richard Mullen, whose name also appears as David Muller in Epstein aircraft records, served as Jeffrey Epstein’s personal and traveling chef during approximately 2004 and 2005. His employment placed him inside several important Epstein properties and aboard private aircraft carrying Epstein, household staff and guests.
Mullen is a significant documentary witness because federal investigators interviewed him in December 2006 and again in October 2020. He discussed young women visiting Epstein’s Palm Beach residence, frequent massage appointments, food preparation, employee supervision, private aircraft travel and the operation of residences in New York, Florida, New Mexico and the United States Virgin Islands.
His testimony is important for both what he described and what he said he did not know. Investigators challenged differences between the two interviews, particularly concerning his perceptions of female visitors and the activities taking place inside Epstein’s home.
The FBI also received a separate account from pilot David Rodgers identifying Mullen as one of Epstein’s chefs. Aircraft manifests and financial records provide additional documentary material concerning his employment.
The evidence establishes Mullen as a former employee and witness. It does not, by itself, establish that he knowingly participated in Epstein’s sexual offenses.
Identity: David Muller and David Mullen
The December 2006 FBI interview gives his full name as David Richard Mullen.
Flight manifests from 2005 alternatively use David Muller and David Mullen. The repeated professional and travel context supports treating those entries as possible references to the same chef.
However, each document should retain the exact spelling appearing in the original.
The existence of unrelated individuals named David Muller means that identity matching outside Epstein’s employment and aircraft records must be independently verified.
Professional Identification
Mullen described previous employment at Daniel, a prominent New York restaurant.
Independent professional histories later associate a chef named David Mullen with the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach, Sundance Resort and Davidson Hotels & Resorts.
Those professional records are useful biographical leads, but should be reconciled with the FBI witness’s full identity before being treated as a complete independently authenticated employment history.
Recruitment and Hiring
The October 2020 FBI report describes how Mullen obtained his job.
He had been working at Daniel when he contacted a headhunter about other employment.
Ghislaine Maxwell contacted him and arranged a tasting at her Manhattan residence.
According to Mullen, Maxwell described a traveling-chef position involving preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Mullen subsequently met Epstein and was offered the position.
Compensation and Housing
Mullen described receiving an apartment as part of his compensation.
The original records also describe access to Epstein-controlled vehicles and purchasing arrangements for food and supplies.
These facts are relevant to understanding how staff compensation and operational expenses were handled.
The full employment agreement, salary, tax treatment and housing terms have not been reconstructed from an original signed contract.
Employment Dates and Departure
In December 2006, Mullen described working for Epstein for approximately one year and five months.
In 2020, he recalled a period of approximately one and a half years, ending roughly fifteen years earlier.
Secondary research places his employment approximately between August 2004 and October 2005.
These dates are broadly compatible but not perfectly reconciled.
Mullen also told investigators that he signed a confidentiality agreement when his employment ended.
No independently verified signed copy of that agreement was established during this review.
Independent Confirmation by Pilot David Rodgers
The FBI interview of David Rodgers, conducted August 15, 2006, provides a separate account of Epstein’s staffing.
Rodgers supplied investigators with employee contact information and identified individuals working at the properties.
He identified David Mullen as a previous chef, with Lance Calloway following him and Brent Tindall having worked as a chef during 2004.
A related FBI record repeats this employment context.
Why This Corroboration Matters
Rodgers’ statement precedes Mullen’s December 2006 interview.
It provides evidence from a separate person identifying Mullen in Epstein’s staff network.
However, Rodgers’ identification does not independently corroborate every observation Mullen later made about household visitors or massages.
New York Residence and Household Operations
Mullen described working at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse on East 71st Street.
His ordinary duties included reviewing available food, preparing meals and remaining on call.
He described spending considerable time in the downstairs kitchen awaiting instructions from household staff.
Epstein sometimes requested toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or snacks after massage appointments.
Mullen also described keeping specific breads and food items available.
Guest Interaction Rules
Maxwell instructed Mullen on clothing, appearance, punctuality and where he could sit aboard aircraft.
He was told not to socialize with guests.
He described receiving instructions through Maxwell, house managers and other personnel.
These observations provide useful context for the hierarchy and work expectations surrounding Epstein’s employees.
Management Changes and Employee Reporting Lines
The 2020 FBI interview describes changes in the people coordinating household operations during Mullen’s employment.
Mullen stated that Maxwell was more directly involved early in his tenure but appeared less frequently toward the end.
Other employees became important contacts for meal preparation, guest arrangements and scheduling.
The public report redacts some individuals’ names.
Those identities should remain protected unless independently established through appropriate public evidence.
Palm Beach Residence and Daily Massages
The 2006 FBI statement describes frequent visits by young women and teenage girls to Epstein’s Palm Beach home.
Mullen told agents that several teenage girls came to the residence on a typical day.
He described visitors entering the house and going upstairs, often in connection with massages.
He also described providing food when visitors requested it.
Observations of Young Visitors
Mullen’s observations concerning the number and apparent ages of the visitors were particularly relevant to the FBI investigation.
He described some young women traveling on Epstein’s aircraft and others visiting locally in Palm Beach.
Some individuals appeared familiar with the residence and knew where to go.
Mullen acknowledged limits to his knowledge of what occurred in rooms where he was not present.
The 2006 and 2020 Age Discrepancy
The 2020 FBI interview contains a more cautious age description.
Mullen said the women he recalled seeing in Palm Beach appeared approximately eighteen to twenty-two years old.
He stated that he assumed they were adults and did not recall seeing anyone who appeared upset.
He also said he had not witnessed cash changing hands.
These statements differ materially from his 2006 description of local teenage visitors and uncertainty about some ages.
Why the Difference Cannot Be Ignored
Both statements form part of the original investigative record.
A complete assessment must preserve the earlier and later versions rather than selecting only one.
Neither retrospective account independently establishes the actual ages of every person he encountered.
Other identity records and survivor testimony are necessary to resolve particular individuals’ ages and circumstances.
What Mullen Believed Was Happening
During the 2020 interview, Mullen said he had suspected some women were engaged in prostitution.
He explained that this was an impression based on their behavior and the frequency of massages, not something he directly witnessed.
His subjective interpretation is not independent evidence that any identified visitor was a sex worker.
This distinction matters because individuals exploited through trafficking should not be mislabeled based on an employee’s assumptions.
Investigators’ later concern about Mullen’s consistency must also be considered when evaluating his recollections.
October 2020 FBI Confrontation
The fifth page of EFTA00090348 documents investigators confronting Mullen about inconsistencies.
The agents expressed concern about his truthfulness.
Mullen stated that he was attempting to answer honestly and that the events had occurred many years earlier.
He expressed regret about having worked for Epstein.
He subsequently requested legal counsel, and the interview ended.
Evidentiary Interpretation
The report establishes that the interviewing agents questioned his consistency.
It does not establish that a court found him to have committed perjury or knowingly made false statements.
His request for counsel must not be treated as evidence of guilt.
Little St. James: Chef and Supply Operations
Mullen reported cooking at Epstein’s Little St. James property in the United States Virgin Islands.
He described being on call around the clock while working there.
He traveled by boat to St. Thomas to obtain food and other supplies.
His responsibilities included preparing meals for guests and responding to requests.
Operational Significance
The account provides firsthand evidence that food purchasing and transport occurred between Little St. James and St. Thomas.
It also establishes how at least one household worker experienced the island’s operational demands.
However, the interview does not provide a complete boat manifest, visitor register or island employment roster.
Zorro Ranch and New Mexico Operations
The 2020 interview confirms Mullen’s work at Epstein’s Zorro Ranch in New Mexico.
He described staying at accommodation a short distance from the property.
His duties included preparing meals throughout the day when Epstein or guests were present.
The records indicate that travel to New Mexico was part of the recurring work arrangement.
Santa Fe Purchasing Activity
Secondary financial indexes identify numerous food purchases in Santa Fe associated with Mullen’s purchasing card during August 2005.
Those transactions are consistent with grocery procurement while working in New Mexico.
However, the underlying individual receipts and authorization records have not all been reconciled.
A purchase in Santa Fe does not establish which visitors were present at Zorro Ranch or what occurred there.
Paris and Martha’s Vineyard Travel
Mullen reported traveling to France while working for Epstein.
He distinguished traveling to Paris from working inside Epstein’s Paris residence.
He also recalled a brief stop at Martha’s Vineyard where he remained with pilots rather than attending a gathering.
These are important distinctions between aircraft travel, employment assignments and verified property visits.
Private Aircraft and Onboard Food Service
Mullen worked aboard Epstein-associated Gulfstream and Boeing 727 aircraft.
He told the FBI that the Boeing 727 had a kitchen where he prepared food for Epstein and guests.
The aviation records contain repeated entries identifying David Mullen or David Muller in relevant passenger lists.
The aircraft travel is consistent with his reported role as a traveling chef.
2004 and 2005 Flight Appearances
A secondary flight reconstruction attributes twenty-three legs to Mullen during 2004 and 2005.
The following register preserves those attributed dates and routes. It should not be treated as a complete original-manifest certification because separate law-enforcement records include additional spelling variants and overlapping travel references.
| Date | Route |

| August 13, 2004 | JFK to Albuquerque |
| September 16, 2004 | JFK to Palm Beach |

The 2005 Muller and Mullen Manifests
Original-numbered DOJ aviation materials include both surname spellings.
| Record | Appearance | Identification |
|---|---|---|
| DOJ-OGR-00032145 | January 3, 2005 flight | David Muller |
| DOJ-OGR-00032152 | February 22, 2005 flight | David Mullen |
| DOJ-OGR-00032161 | May 6, 2005 flight | David Muller |
| DOJ-OGR-00032162 | May 10, 2005 flight | David Mullen |
These identifiers should be preserved separately from the EFTA numbering system.
The manifest variants support further identity reconciliation but should not be treated as four independently new journeys without matching them against other flight indexes.
American Express Purchasing Records
The expanded document index identifies Mullen as a supplementary cardholder on an American Express purchasing account associated with Epstein’s household operations.
The records describe purchases at grocery and specialty food merchants in New York, Florida and New Mexico.
They include food purchases at Whole Foods, Grace’s Market, Dean & DeLuca, Publix and other suppliers.
They also include commercial airline bookings in Mullen’s name.
What the Card Records Support
The activity is consistent with Mullen’s documented responsibility for purchasing food and traveling between properties.
It may assist in corroborating locations and dates.
However, a transaction associated with a named cardholder does not independently establish that the cardholder personally authorized every charge.
Nor does it establish who attended meals or visited properties at the time.
September 2004 FedEx Shipment
A separate courier index identifies a September 20, 2004 FedEx shipment from Epstein’s 457 Madison Avenue office to David Mullen at a Manhattan address.
The shipment is a useful lead because it is contemporary with the beginning of his reported employment.
However, the contents and purpose of the package are not established from the index alone.
The original label and accompanying correspondence would be needed to determine its evidentiary significance.
Relationship With Other Household Personnel
Mullen’s FBI interviews identify employees involved in domestic operations, property management, transportation and security.
Some names are redacted, while other personnel are described only by a first name or job function.
The separate pilot interview identifies Miles Alexander, Janusz Banasiak, Lance Calloway, Brent Tindall and other personnel.
These records help reconstruct the changing staffing structure surrounding Epstein.
However, appearance in a shared employment network does not establish participation in criminal conduct.
Guest Meals and Public Figures
Mullen described preparing meals for important guests.
The 2006 report includes references to John Kerry and a person whose name is rendered Aaron Barak.
The 2020 report describes preparing lunch for Al Gore and a former Israeli prime minister.
These accounts require careful identification and contextual verification.
A chef preparing food for a guest does not establish that the guest witnessed abuse or participated in illegal activity.
Specific visit dates and locations should not be assigned without corroborating records.
Potential Witness Listing in Civil Litigation
A secondary legal index identifies David Mullen in a potential-witness listing associated with records unsealed in January 2024 from Giuffre v. Maxwell.
The indexed entry gives him a position in the list of potential witnesses.
However, listing a person as a potential witness does not establish that they actually testified, were deposed or possessed particular information.
The original filed exhibit and its procedural history are necessary to determine the exact significance of this appearance.
Subsequent Professional Career
Independent professional records associate David Mullen with later chef positions following his work for Epstein.
These include the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach, Sundance Resort and Davidson Hotels & Resorts.
The secondary dossier reports that Mullen received a culinary recognition in South Florida in 2008 and became a corporate executive chef in 2017.
These details provide potentially useful independent identity corroboration but should not be confused with evidence concerning Epstein’s criminal conduct.
Independent Sleuth Research
The June 2020 investigation by Agenthades identified David Mullen as an Epstein chef and drew attention to his aviation and residence connections.
The Epstein Exposed document dossier assembles a broader set of employment, financial, flight and witness references.
These independent indexes are valuable research tools, but their document counts require deduplication and should not be mistaken for the number of distinct primary evidentiary events.
The strongest substantive findings remain the FBI interviews and independently corroborating employee records.
Was David Mullen an Epstein Survivor?
No verified record reviewed for this article identifies David Mullen as a survivor of Epstein’s sexual abuse or trafficking.
He is documented as a former employee who provided information to the FBI.
Working within Epstein’s household does not establish that he knew about or participated in trafficking.
Likewise, his observations, recollections and statements should be evaluated individually rather than treated as evidence of collective staff responsibility.

Conflicting Evidence and Unresolved Questions
Age of Visitors
The 2006 and 2020 accounts use materially different descriptions of the young women visiting Epstein’s Palm Beach property. Original testimony and corroborating evidence must be evaluated together.
Full Employment Dates
The available accounts agree on roughly a year and a half of employment, but exact beginning and ending dates remain unresolved.
Original Flight Count
The 23-leg index is useful but does not demonstrate that every relevant manifest and duplicate version has been reconciled.
Individual Purchasing Transactions
Credit-card and travel records require verification of the purchaser, cardholder, dates, amounts and underlying receipts.
Employment Authority
Mullen described supervision by Maxwell and other staff, but the formal employing entity and complete management hierarchy have not been independently established.
Witness Credibility
The FBI expressed concern about differences between interviews. The report documents that concern without establishing a judicial finding that Mullen lied.
Additional Document Mentions
The secondary database reports hundreds of Mullen-related document appearances. Repeated statements, flight records, receipts and indexed references must be separated into unique evidentiary events before a complete count is certified.
Assessment of the Documentary Record
David Richard Mullen is a significant former employee and investigative witness in the Epstein documentary record.
His employment is supported by his own FBI interviews and the independent identification provided by pilot David Rodgers.
The records establish work involving private cooking, food purchasing, transportation and multiple Epstein properties.
His statements also describe frequent visits by young women for massages, including accounts that raised concern about the visitors’ ages and circumstances.
The 2020 interview adds detail about household operations but also documents material differences from his 2006 account.
Flight manifests and financial records support a broader picture of his duties and movements, while remaining subject to source-specific reconciliation.
There is no basis for treating every employee in Epstein’s network as criminally responsible, nor for dismissing observations simply because a witness’s recollections are imperfect.
The appropriate evidentiary conclusion is that Mullen was an Epstein chef and FBI witness whose accounts provide important information about Epstein’s residences, staff hierarchy, travel and massage arrangements.
The original interviews, corroborating pilot testimony and accounting materials should be evaluated together, with inconsistencies preserved and all unsupported allegations excluded.
