Luciano “Jojo” Fontanilla Jr.: Jeffrey Epstein’s Household Staff, Witness Records, Financial Benefits and Documentary Evidence
Snapshot
Luciano A. Fontanilla Jr., commonly called Jojo, worked within Jeffrey Epstein’s household operation as a driver and household employee. Civil litigation materials also described him as Epstein’s New York butler.
His documentary significance extends beyond employment. Records identify him as a potential witness, seek testimony and documents from him, connect him to company credit arrangements, and provide substantial benefits through Epstein’s estate planning.
Giuffre’s deposition motion described Fontanilla as a critical witness who had interacted frequently with her during her time with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Her lawyers sought evidence about visitors, their apparent ages and Maxwell’s activities at the New York mansion. These were representations by Giuffre’s lawyers about anticipated testimony, rather than testimony from Fontanilla himself. Epstein Files
His wife, Rosalyn V. Fontanilla, also worked for Epstein. Records and reporting use names including Rosalyn, Lyn, Lynn and Jun Lyn. Allegations against her must be distinguished from evidence concerning Luciano.
The accessible records establish important aspects of his employment, financial relationship and potential witness relevance. They do not resolve every journey, employment date, interview, deposition or eventual estate distribution.
Key Takeaways
- Fontanilla was a recurring operational employee. His role included driving and household duties, with particular relevance to Epstein’s New York residence.
- Giuffre’s lawyers sought his evidence for specific reasons. They identified his potential observations of visitors, minors and Maxwell’s presence at the mansion.
- A deposition subpoena exists. It sought testimony and records relating to Epstein, Maxwell and massages at Epstein’s residences.
- A scheduled deposition is not a completed deposition. Later litigation materials reported that Giuffre was no longer seeking his deposition. The reviewed sources do not establish a completed transcript.
- A handwritten interview record identifies Jojo as a driver. The reference occurs within an account of a trip involving a proposed hotel meeting. It does not independently establish what he knew.
- His financial benefits changed between trust versions. The documents include shared cash provisions, an annuity provision, individual cash benefits, property interests and loan forgiveness.
- His final listed cash benefit was $3 million. The August 8, 2019 instrument also separately provided for property interests and loan forgiveness.
- The records include an Apple Watch allocation and vehicle shopping. These add detail to the financial relationship without proving that every proposed purchase or distribution occurred.
Identity and Record Matching
The 2012 trust identifies Luciano A. Fontanilla Jr. and Rosalyn V. Fontanilla separately. Their shared appearance in estate planning helps distinguish the couple from unrelated people with the same surname.
Relevant search forms include:
- Luciano A. Fontanilla Jr.
- Luciano Fontanilla.
- Jojo Fontanilla.
- Jo Jo Fontanilla.
- JoJo Fontanilla.
- Jo Jo Fontanella.
- Jojo Fontenella.
Some variations reflect informal naming. Others reflect spelling or text extraction errors.
The nickname is connected to Luciano through legal disclosures and household records. However, every isolated mention of Jojo should still be checked against the surrounding document.
Rosalyn’s variations require similar care. A reference to Lyn should not automatically be assigned to her when the surrounding context is ambiguous.
Employment History and Household Responsibilities
Estate discovery responses in Bryant v. Indyke identify Luciano and Rosalyn among people believed to have worked at Epstein’s residences during the relevant period from 2002 to 2004.
The responses discuss Epstein’s homes in New York, Paris, New Mexico, Palm Beach and the United States Virgin Islands. They do not allocate each employee to every property.
The executors also stated that they did not know whether the listed employees interacted with the plaintiff or possessed knowledge of her allegations.
This establishes an estate supplied identification of the Fontanillas as employees associated with the relevant period. It does not establish a complete location history or individual knowledge of the plaintiff’s experiences. Epstein Files
Giuffre’s May 2016 motion described Jojo as having worked for years at Epstein’s New York mansion. The motion connected that employment to the period when Giuffre stayed there as a minor.
Taken together, these legal records support a substantial employment history. They do not establish an exact hiring date.
Household Communications and Access to Operational Information
The December 2012 schedule in EFTA00399801 copied Lyn and Jojo, Jojo separately and other household personnel.
It combined:
- Meals.
- Entertainment.
- Shopping.
- Business appointments.
- Visitor arrangements.
The schedule included dinner for girls prepared by Didier, a ballet outing, furniture shopping involving girls and an appointment with Leon Black.
This shows that information about different parts of Epstein’s daily activities circulated through the household staff network.
It does not establish that Fontanilla attended every appointment or performed every listed task. The word girls also cannot establish age or survivor status without additional evidence. Epstein Files
The January 12, 2017 arrival email in EFTA00443136 instructed an arriving person to travel to Epstein’s New York townhouse. It named Merwin, Jojo and Leo as people who would be at the house.
The message discussed accommodation and reimbursement for transportation. It therefore places Jojo within practical household reception arrangements.
Its statement that the arriving person would reside at the house does not establish that Jojo permanently resided there. Epstein Files
Driver Duties and Scheduled Transportation
The May 2015 schedule indexed as EFTA00285111 includes an instruction for Jojo to be outside with the car. The surrounding schedule contains appointments, an outside meeting and an evening dinner.
The March 2017 schedule indexed as EFTA00285377 similarly places Jojo outside with the car at a specified time.
These records document the household’s use of Jojo for transportation readiness. They do not prove that every scheduled journey occurred. Epstein Files
The April 2019 schedule indexed as EFTA00285728 notes Jojo’s own early appointment in Jamaica, Queens, and his departure time.
That entry shows that personal availability could be incorporated into Epstein’s operational schedule. It also extends the documentary trail into 2019. Epstein Files
A Driver Reference in Handwritten Interview Notes
The handwritten notes beginning at EFTA00021076 contain a relevant passage on the page marked EFTA00021092.
The passage records an account involving a man from Dubai identified as Sultan, an introduction associated with Andrew Farkas, a telephone conversation and a proposed hotel meeting. A following notation identifies Jojo as the driver in the car.
The person providing the account remains unnamed here.
This is an important transportation reference because it appears within investigative interview material rather than an ordinary appointment schedule.
Its evidentiary limits are equally important:
- The passage is a handwritten note.
- It is not a verbatim transcript.
- The described journey is not independently reconstructed within that passage.
- The notation does not establish what Jojo heard.
- It does not establish what he knew about the meeting.
- It does not accuse him of committing an assault.
The reference supports examining transportation records and witness accounts together. It does not support assigning knowledge or intent solely from his presence as a driver. media-cdn.rollcall.com
Flight Log Appearance
Tommy Carstensen’s flight index associates Fontanilla with an August 10, 2004 flight from Palm Beach International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The index records the manifest spelling as Jo Jo Fontanella and identifies EFTA02846460 as a source.
This is an indexed flight identification. It should not be presented as a complete count of his lifetime travel on Epstein’s aircraft.
Manifest spelling, abbreviations and incomplete records can affect retrieval. The index’s single identified flight does not establish that Fontanilla took only one flight.
Likewise, appearing on a flight does not establish the purpose of the journey or knowledge of criminal activity. Epstein Files
Address Book Appearance
The address book index places Jojo Fontanilla on page 82 and connects the entry to Epstein’s 71st Street household contact listing.
The index reports four telephone numbers and one address under the entry.
This supports his function as a household contact. Private telephone numbers and residential contact details are omitted here.
Address book inclusion establishes that contact information was recorded. It does not independently establish criminal conduct, friendship or participation in every activity associated with the household. Epstein’s Black Book
Why Giuffre’s Lawyers Wanted His Testimony
The May 27, 2016 motion reproduced in EFTA02792113 provides a more specific explanation than the general witness disclosure.
Giuffre’s lawyers stated that:
- Fontanilla worked at Epstein’s New York mansion during the relevant period.
- Giuffre interacted with him frequently.
- He could describe the apparent ages and numbers of female visitors.
- He could address Maxwell’s presence at the mansion.
- He could describe activities he observed while Maxwell was there.
The relevant discussion spans pages marked EFTA02792129 and EFTA02792130.
The motion proposed approximately three and a half hours of deposition time for him.
These statements explain the legal theory behind seeking his evidence. They remain counsel’s description of anticipated testimony, rather than established testimony from Fontanilla. Epstein Files
The Deposition Subpoena and Document Requests
The subpoena package in EFTA01734932 sought Fontanilla’s testimony in the Maxwell civil litigation.
Its recorded details include:
- Issue date: May 17, 2016.
- Scheduled deposition: June 9, 2016.
- Scheduled time: 9 a.m.
- Location: Boies Schiller & Flexner in New York.
- Recording methods: stenographic recording and video.
The attached requests sought documents relating to Epstein, Maxwell, people giving them massages and massages at Epstein’s residences. Some additional requested subjects are redacted.
The document requests appear on the page marked EFTA01734940.
The package establishes a demand for testimony and records. It does not establish successful service, complete production, attendance or a completed deposition. Epstein Files
What Happened to the Proposed Deposition?
A later Maxwell litigation submission reported that Giuffre was no longer seeking depositions of several witnesses, including Jojo Fontanilla.
The footnote cited Giuffre’s amended reply, docket entry 224, page 2, footnote 4.
This qualifies the earlier subpoena and motion records. The documentary sequence shows that his testimony was sought and that a later filing reported the request was no longer being pursued.
The reviewed material does not resolve why that changed. It does not establish that Fontanilla refused to testify, invoked the Fifth Amendment, received immunity or completed a deposition elsewhere. media-cdn.rollcall.com
Company Credit and Banking Records
The Colonial Bank records collected in EFTA00186431 contain instructions concerning Fontanilla’s card under an NES LLC account.
A September 22, 2004 instruction requested a card with a $1,000 credit limit. Another instruction refers to changing his limit to $3,000.
These records connect him to an Epstein associated company spending arrangement.
They do not establish his salary, total expenditure, reimbursement history or the purpose of every charge. A credit limit is spending authorization, rather than cash compensation. Epstein Files
Gifts and Vehicle Shopping
Apple Watch Allocation
The 2018 Apple Watch list in EFTA00285607 includes Jojo Fontanilla.
His detailed entry appears on EFTA00285609 and records:
- Listed amount: $575.95.
- Size: 44 millimetres.
- Case colour: space gray.
- Case material: aluminium.
- Band: anthracite and black Nike Sport Band.
The summary marks his entry as done. This documents an administratively recorded watch allocation, although the list is not a signed receipt from Fontanilla. epstein-data.com
Subaru Shopping
Car and Driver’s February 2026 reporting examined correspondence about obtaining a Subaru for Jojo.
The article linked EFTA02555686 and reported that Richard Kahn investigated a WRX before identifying a transmission mismatch. It also described a possible salary contribution and a later change toward a Legacy.
This documents purchase discussions. It does not establish a completed purchase, ownership transfer or actual salary deduction. caranddriver.com
Trust Benefits and Changes Over Time
The trust versions describe different arrangements. Their figures must not be added together as if all remained payable.
| Document | Provision concerning Fontanilla | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| 2012 trust, EFTA01266359 | $1 million shared with Rosalyn | Equal shares if both survived; all to the survivor if only one survived |
| 2013 trust, EFTA00082247 | $1 million shared with Rosalyn | Repeated the shared benefit |
| Amendment, EFTA00082267 | $2 million for Luciano and Rosalyn | Indexed amendment text; effective date requires checking the complete instrument |
| Document titled 2017 Trust, EFTA00099424 | A $2 million annuity for Luciano | Monthly lifetime payments, with remaining principal directed to surviving children |
| January 2019 trust, EFTA00098341 | $1 million individually | Separate property and loan forgiveness provisions |
| August 2019 trust, EFTA00099303 | $3 million individually | Separate property and loan forgiveness provisions |
The 2012 and 2013 instruments also listed both Luciano and Rosalyn in loan forgiveness provisions. The shared cash amount was a total benefit, rather than the same amount for each spouse. epstein-data.com
The indexed amendment text in EFTA00082267 changed the relevant provision to $2 million for the couple if at least one survived. Its full date and execution history are not established by the retrieved extract. Filestein
The Annuity Provision
The document titled Jeffrey E. Epstein 2017 Trust contains a materially different arrangement.
It directs purchase of a $2 million annuity for Luciano if he survived Epstein. Payments would continue monthly for Luciano’s lifetime. Remaining principal at his death would go to the then surviving children of Luciano and Rosalyn.
The document separately provides for property interests and loan forgiveness. Its extracted opening gives January 2017 without a complete day.
An annuity principal amount is not the same as an immediate cash distribution. The document also does not establish that an annuity was purchased. Epstein Files
The January and August 2019 Provisions
The January 18, 2019 trust provided Luciano with $1 million if he survived Epstein.
It separately directed transfer of Epstein’s interests in Lyn & Jojo LLC and listed Luciano for loan forgiveness. The property provision could benefit his heirs even if he did not survive. media-cdn.rollcall.com
The August 8, 2019 instrument increased the individual cash provision to $3 million and retained separate property and loan forgiveness provisions.
The reviewed sources do not establish the eventual cash distribution, property transfer or amount of debt forgiven. Epstein Files
Lyn & Jojo LLC and Beneficial Ownership
The 2019 trust provisions describe Epstein’s interest as all outstanding membership interests in Lyn & Jojo LLC, a New York company holding property.
They identify Darren Indyke as holding those interests as Epstein’s nominee.
The distinction matters:
- The company held legal title to property.
- Epstein claimed beneficial ownership of its membership interests.
- Indyke held the interests as nominee.
- Luciano was the intended recipient under the trust provision.
The company’s name did not establish that Luciano and Rosalyn already owned it.
Heather Ashley’s financial investigation identifies supporting entity records, including EFTA01118590, EFTA01594981, EFTA01583896 and EFTA00076491.
Her reporting supplies additional leads for comparing company ownership, account administration and estate treatment. A final assessment of transfer requires distribution or title records. theheatherashley.substack.com
Rosalyn Fontanilla and Survivor Allegations
Reporting on Jennifer Araoz’s amended complaint identifies Rosalyn as a former Epstein maid accused of helping facilitate abuse.
The report named her alongside Lesley Groff and Cimberly Espinosa. It stated that Rosalyn died in 2016.
These were allegations in civil litigation. The report did not identify Luciano as one of those newly named defendants.
Shared employment, marriage and joint trust provisions explain the overlapping records. They do not transfer an allegation from Rosalyn to Luciano. wptv.com
Philippine Connections, Photographs and Independent Reporting
Abogado’s February 2026 report identifies Jojo and Lyn as spouses within Epstein’s Filipino household staff network.
It discusses staff travel to the Philippines and earlier reporting about photographs of the couple with Epstein and prominent visitors.
Those photographs require their own provenance checks. A photograph can establish presence together when authenticated. It does not automatically establish the purpose of a meeting or criminal knowledge. abogado.com.ph
Decolonize Feminism’s investigation examines the couple’s household roles and migrant worker context.
It also interprets a July 2017 email as involving Jojo transporting a minor. That interpretation remains an attributed claim here because the passenger’s age and complete underlying communication were not independently established.
Economic dependence is relevant to workplace power. It cannot establish either culpability or innocence without individual evidence. decolonizefeminism.substack.com
Rainy Season’s invitation investigation identifies EFTA02241616, an April 2018 communication to Luciano concerning event arrangements. It demonstrates how driver communications can help reconstruct logistics while leaving questions about hosts’ knowledge unresolved. rainyseason.substack.com

Assessment of the Documentary Record
Fontanilla’s importance rests on several independent evidence categories: employment identification, household communications, transportation references, proposed testimony, banking arrangements and estate benefits.
The strongest survivor related legal material explains why his observations could matter. The subpoena shows a concrete attempt to obtain evidence. The later filing qualifies what can be said about whether that attempt continued.
The financial documents demonstrate a continuing relationship involving more than wages. They do not establish that benefits were intended to purchase silence, reward wrongdoing or compensate for ordinary service. Establishing motive requires additional evidence.
No reviewed source establishes a criminal conviction or adjudicated trafficking liability against Luciano. Equally, the available records do not resolve what he knew.
Questions That Remain
- What were his exact employment dates and duties?
- Which properties did he work at, and when?
- Were driver logs, vehicle records and expense reports preserved?
- What happened to the June 2016 deposition request?
- Did investigators interview him in another proceeding?
- Is a complete recorded interview or deposition publicly available?
- What does the original July 2017 transportation communication establish?
- Which trust documents were fully executed and later superseded?
- Was the proposed annuity ever purchased?
- What cash, property interests and loan forgiveness did he ultimately receive?
- What records distinguish his duties and knowledge from Rosalyn’s?
