Brett Ratner and Jeffrey Epstein: Flights, Photographs, Hollywood Access, and the “Snow White” Email

Brett Ratner

Brett Ratner’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein is not based on a single accidental photograph.

The public record includes Ratner’s name in Epstein’s address book, three reported appearances in flight records, photographs with Epstein and Jean Luc Brunel, attempts by Epstein’s staff to contact him, a possible dinner invitation, and numerous references inside Epstein’s Hollywood social network.

Then there is the most disturbing document.

In June 2010, nearly two years after Epstein became a registered sex offender, Epstein told a young woman that Ratner was preparing a major Snow White film. Epstein said he wanted to photograph her wearing a Snow White costume and instructed her to obtain one from a costume store.

Weeks later, a woman reported to Epstein that “the snow white” had been sexually penetrated twice after putting on the costume. Former JPMorgan executive Jes Staley separately emailed Epstein, “That was fun. Say hi to Snow White,” before discussing which fictional character should come next.

The surviving correspondence does not establish that Ratner knew Epstein was using his name this way. It does not show Ratner directing the costume request or participating in the later encounter involving Staley. What it does establish is that Epstein invoked Ratner’s Hollywood identity and an actual film project while persuading a young woman to obtain a sexualized costume.

Ratner has said that he did not know Epstein and did not have a personal relationship with him. The released record complicates that denial. Photographs place Ratner inside Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse, flight records reportedly list him on Epstein’s aircraft, Epstein’s address book contained several Ratner telephone numbers, and Epstein’s staff repeatedly attempted to reach him.

None of that proves that Ratner participated in Epstein’s trafficking operation. It does establish more contact than a single forgotten photograph can explain.

Who Is Brett Ratner?

Brett Ratner is an American film director and producer from Miami Beach, Florida.

Ratner attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and began his career directing music videos. He later moved into feature films and became best known for directing the Rush Hour series, The Family Man, Red Dragon, X Men: The Last Stand, Tower Heist, and Hercules.

Ratner also cofounded RatPac Entertainment. The company participated in the production or financing of numerous major films.

His position in Hollywood placed him inside the same entertainment, modeling, publicity, and billionaire social circles that Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cultivated.

Ratner also had a documented connection to Jean Luc Brunel, the French modeling agent who became one of Epstein’s most important associates. Brunel was accused by multiple women of sexual assault and was later charged in France with offenses involving minors. He died in French custody in 2022 while awaiting trial.

The Photographs Inside Epstein’s Townhouse

The Department of Justice released photographs showing Ratner inside Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse.

Some images show Ratner seated on a couch next to Epstein and two women whose faces were concealed in the public release. Ratner has his arms around the woman seated between him and Epstein.

Other released images show Ratner posing closely with Jean Luc Brunel.

The photographs do not contain visible dates. Reporting by New York Magazine identified the setting as Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse.

The images establish physical presence. They do not reveal what happened before or after the photographs were taken. They also do not establish the ages of the women or any criminal conduct.

Ratner told Fox News that the woman he was embracing was his fiancée at the time. He said she invited him to the event and that he did not have a personal relationship with Epstein.

Ratner described the gathering as occurring approximately twenty years earlier. He said he had forgotten the encounter because Epstein was not a personal acquaintance.

The photographs are nevertheless difficult to reconcile with an absolute claim that Ratner never met Epstein. Ratner was physically present beside Epstein inside Epstein’s home.

The narrower version of Ratner’s response is possible: he may have attended a gathering without developing what he considered a personal relationship. The released files cannot determine how Ratner privately defined the relationship.

Photographs With Jean Luc Brunel

Ratner also appears in photographs with Jean Luc Brunel.

Reuters published one of the DOJ images showing Ratner posing with Brunel. Other released photographs reportedly show the two men shirtless and embracing.

The photographs establish that Ratner and Brunel encountered one another socially. They do not establish that Ratner participated in Brunel’s alleged crimes or knew about Brunel’s conduct.

The connection remains relevant because Ratner’s career and Brunel’s business both operated around models, entertainment figures, photographers, producers, and international social events.

Brunel’s MC2 Model Management received financial assistance connected to Epstein. Survivors and investigators alleged that modeling opportunities were sometimes used to recruit or move vulnerable girls and young women.

Ratner briefly operated Rush Model Management with music executive Russell Simmons. Ratner later described the venture in terms suggesting that it was created partly to meet women.

The existence of two modeling enterprises does not prove an operational connection between Ratner and Brunel. However, the photographs establish that their worlds were not entirely separate.

Ratner in Epstein’s Address Book

Ratner reportedly appears in Epstein’s personal address book with five telephone numbers.

An address book entry is evidence that Epstein or his staff possessed contact information for Ratner. It is not proof of criminal involvement, friendship, or frequent communication.

The number of entries matters because it suggests more than a name copied from a public directory. Multiple numbers often represented combinations of mobile, office, residence, assistant, or secondary contact information.

The address book evidence aligns with later emails showing Epstein’s staff attempting to reach Ratner and his assistant.

Three Reported Flights on Epstein’s Aircraft

Published transcriptions of Epstein’s aircraft records reportedly identify Ratner on three flights.

July 25, 2000

Ratner was reportedly listed on a flight from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey to Palm Beach International Airport.

Other reported passengers included Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sarah Kellen.

August 15, 2000

Ratner was reportedly listed on a return flight from Palm Beach to Teterboro.

Epstein, Maxwell, and Kellen were again among the reported passengers.

August 22, 2003

Ratner was reportedly listed on a flight from Teterboro to Los Angeles International Airport.

Epstein, Maxwell, and Kellen were reported on the same flight.

These records, cataloged in the Brett Ratner flight profile, place Ratner on Epstein’s aircraft before Epstein’s 2006 Palm Beach investigation became public.

A flight log establishes reported travel. It does not establish that abuse occurred aboard the aircraft, that Ratner visited Little Saint James, or that Ratner knew about Epstein’s criminal conduct.

No verified record reviewed for this article places Ratner on a flight to the United States Virgin Islands.

The reported flights nevertheless undermine the idea that Ratner’s only contact with Epstein was one forgotten gathering at the Manhattan townhouse.

The March 2009 Bobby Kotick Email

A March 4, 2009 email shows Epstein referring to Ratner during a conversation involving Activision executive Bobby Kotick.

Epstein wrote that he had spoken to Kotick while Kotick was with Ratner. The discussion concerned finding a pilot for Kotick’s Bell 407 helicopter and Gulfstream aircraft.

The record appears as EFTA01827176.

The email does not show Ratner communicating directly with Epstein. It places Ratner beside Kotick during a conversation with Epstein.

The date is significant. Epstein had already pleaded guilty in Florida and was serving his controversial sentence with work release privileges.

The email demonstrates that Epstein remained connected to Hollywood and technology figures even after his conviction.

The “Snow White” Email

The most consequential Ratner reference appears in EFTA01815151.

On June 20, 2010, Epstein emailed a young woman and told her that Ratner was going to make a major film involving Snow White. Epstein then wrote that he wanted to photograph her wearing a Snow White costume and told her that she could obtain the costume from a store.

A duplicate or related copy was later entered into the congressional record as EFTA00735698.

Ratner was connected to an actual Snow White film project during this period. He became a producer of Mirror Mirror, the 2012 film based on the Snow White story.

That detail made Epstein’s statement plausible to the recipient. Epstein was not invoking a random celebrity or imaginary project. He used the name of a working Hollywood director associated with a real film concept.

The email does not show that Ratner authorized Epstein to use his name.

It does not show Ratner communicating with the woman.

It does not show Ratner requesting photographs.

It does not establish that Ratner participated in the later encounter involving the Snow White costume.

Its significance lies in Epstein’s method. A Hollywood opportunity appears to have been used as the justification for persuading a young woman to purchase and wear a costume.

What Happened After the Costume Request?

The Snow White correspondence becomes more disturbing when read beside later emails.

Approximately three weeks after Epstein’s costume instruction, a woman emailed Epstein and reported that “the snow white” had been sexually penetrated twice after putting on the costume.

On the same day, Jes Staley emailed Epstein, “That was fun. Say hi to Snow White.”

Epstein asked Staley which character he would like next. Staley responded with “Beauty and the Beast.” Epstein replied that one side was available.

The emails were examined during the House Oversight Committee’s deposition of Jes Staley.

Congressional questioners stated that they had reviewed an unredacted version and represented that the recipient of Epstein’s June costume email was the same person who later sent the message about what happened after the costume was put on.

Staley denied having sex with a woman wearing a Snow White costume. He rejected the suggestion that Epstein had instructed the woman to dress that way for a sexual encounter with him.

The documents create a concerning sequence:

  • Epstein told a young woman about Ratner’s Snow White project.
  • Epstein proposed photographing her in a Snow White costume.
  • Epstein instructed her to obtain the costume.
  • A later message reported sexual activity involving someone identified as Snow White.
  • Staley separately referred to Snow White after saying an encounter had been fun.
  • Epstein offered Staley another fictional character.

The evidence links Ratner’s name to the pretext used to obtain the costume. It does not establish that Ratner knew what Epstein intended to do with it.

Was Ratner’s Name Used as Bait?

Kait Justice’s investigation argues that Epstein used Ratner’s name and the possibility of a Hollywood opportunity to persuade the young woman to participate in a costume photo session.

American Freakshow’s investigation of Epstein’s Russian social network also examines the Snow White sequence and identifies the recipient within a broader group of women connected to Epstein.

The word “bait” is an interpretation, but it is supported by the structure of Epstein’s message. Epstein invoked a recognizable director and a real film project before proposing the costume photographs.

The evidence does not reveal whether Epstein had discussed the woman with Ratner. It does not identify any resulting photographs. It also does not establish that Ratner ever saw the costume or knew his name was being used.

The most accurate conclusion is that Epstein used Ratner’s name as part of the proposition. Ratner’s knowledge or authorization remains unknown.

Epstein’s Staff Tried to Reach Ratner

Emails from December 2010 show Epstein’s assistant Lesley Groff attempting to contact Ratner.

In EFTA01832187, Groff wrote that the number Epstein’s staff had for Ratner’s assistant was not working. She also called Ratner’s mobile number but could not confirm from the recorded greeting that it belonged to him.

A related message, EFTA01830415, states that the additional Ratner numbers provided to Epstein’s staff were the same numbers already in their files.

In EFTA01832434, Epstein instructed Groff to continue the effort.

Another staff message stated that Ratner had been emailed and informed that Epstein would remain available through Sunday evening. Staff reported that Ratner had not responded.

These exchanges establish:

  • Epstein wanted to reach Ratner.
  • Epstein’s staff possessed several Ratner contact numbers.
  • Staff contacted or attempted to contact Ratner directly.
  • Staff also attempted to reach Ratner’s assistant.
  • Ratner did not immediately respond to at least one invitation.

The records do not establish that every attempted contact produced a meeting.

Possible Dinner at Epstein’s Home

One Epstein staff email stated that Ratner might attend a dinner.

The message instructed staff to prepare for dinner while noting that Ratner had been called and emailed but had not yet responded. The record appears as EFTA02321404.

A possible invitation is not proof of attendance. However, it shows that Epstein considered Ratner someone he could invite to a private meal.

The invitation also fits the broader pattern of Epstein using dinners to connect people from Hollywood, finance, politics, science, and academia.

The St. Barths Social Network

Ratner appeared within the same St. Barths holiday network that included Maxwell, Brunel, Harvey Weinstein, David Geffen, Jean Pigozzi, Roman Abramovich, Peggy Siegal, and other entertainment and business figures.

A 2010 St. Barths list identified Ratner as staying aboard Jean Pigozzi’s boat. Versions of the list appear in EFTA01792909, EFTA01830988, EFTA02010594, and EFTA00900412.

The same list identified Maxwell as staying aboard a boat connected to Bobby Kotick.

The document does not show that Epstein created the list or that every person listed met him. Publicist Peggy Siegal sent Epstein extensive reports about social events, guests, yachts, hotels, and movements among wealthy people.

Ratner’s appearance demonstrates his position inside the same international social environment Epstein monitored and navigated.

Cannes and Peggy Siegal

In May 2012, Peggy Siegal emailed from the Cannes Film Festival and told Epstein that she was sitting beside Ratner.

Siegal wrote that Ratner had produced a long documentary about Woody Allen that had just screened. She added that Ratner said hello and loved Epstein.

The message appears in EFTA02014566 and a related copy, EFTA01880170.

Siegal’s wording is direct evidence that she represented Ratner as sending an affectionate greeting to Epstein.

However, the statement came through Siegal. The surviving email does not contain Ratner’s own written words. Siegal may have accurately relayed the greeting, paraphrased it, or embellished it.

Even with that limitation, the message adds to the cumulative evidence that Ratner was not merely an unidentified guest who passed Epstein once at a party.

The 2017 Sexual Misconduct Reports

On November 1, 2017, the Los Angeles Times published allegations from six women accusing Ratner of sexual harassment or misconduct.

The allegations included unwanted sexual advances and sexually inappropriate conduct. Ratner denied the accusations.

Warner Bros. ended its relationship with Ratner, and he stepped away from major Hollywood productions.

That same day, Epstein emailed attorney Reid Weingarten with the subject “brett ratner now . oy.”

The message appears in EFTA00967887, EFTA00968807, and HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_030667.

Ellie Leonard’s review of Epstein’s emails to Reid Weingarten places the Ratner message inside a broader conversation about powerful men facing public allegations.

Epstein asked Weingarten for a telephone number and said he had a “truly funny” story. The surviving excerpt does not clarify whose number Epstein wanted or what story he intended to tell.

The exchange proves that Ratner’s public crisis immediately caught Epstein’s attention. It does not establish that Epstein contacted Ratner or provided legal or media assistance.

Ratner’s Public Denial

After the release of the photographs, Ratner said he did not know Epstein and had no personal relationship with him.

He explained that:

  • His former fiancée invited him to the gathering.
  • The woman he embraced in the photograph was that fiancée.
  • He attended the event with her.
  • He did not remember the encounter when previously asked about Epstein.
  • He was not concerned about the image because he knew the identity of the woman.

The first three statements may explain the townhouse photographs. They do not explain every part of the documentary record.

Ratner’s account does not address:

  • The three reported flights.
  • His multiple numbers in Epstein’s address book.
  • Epstein’s staff repeatedly trying to reach him.
  • The possible dinner invitation.
  • Peggy Siegal reporting that Ratner sent Epstein an affectionate greeting.
  • Epstein invoking Ratner’s Snow White project.
  • Epstein’s immediate interest when allegations against Ratner became public in 2017.

None of these facts proves that Ratner participated in Epstein’s crimes. Together, they make a single forgotten encounter an incomplete description of the documented connection.

Sexual Misconduct Allegations Unrelated to Epstein

Multiple women have publicly accused Ratner of sexual misconduct. Ratner has denied the allegations.

The accusations are relevant to Ratner’s public history, but they should not be merged with the Epstein evidence.

No public Epstein survivor identified in the records reviewed for this article has accused Ratner of abusing her through Epstein.

The women who accused Ratner in 2017 did not, in the reporting reviewed for this article, describe Epstein as involved in their alleged experiences.

The proper distinction is:

  • Ratner has faced multiple public sexual misconduct allegations.
  • Those allegations have been denied.
  • The Epstein records independently document social and network contact.
  • The two bodies of evidence should not be combined into a trafficking allegation without supporting testimony or documents.

What Is Established?

The record establishes that:

  • Ratner was photographed inside Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse.
  • Ratner was photographed with Jean Luc Brunel.
  • Epstein’s records contained multiple Ratner telephone numbers.
  • Ratner reportedly appeared on three Epstein aircraft flights.
  • Epstein’s staff repeatedly attempted to contact Ratner.
  • Ratner was considered as a possible guest at a dinner.
  • Ratner appeared in the same international entertainment and St. Barths social network monitored by Siegal.
  • Siegal told Epstein that Ratner sent an affectionate greeting from Cannes.
  • Epstein used Ratner’s name and Snow White film project when proposing costume photographs to a young woman.
  • Epstein followed the 2017 public allegations against Ratner.
  • Ratner denies knowing Epstein or having a personal relationship with him.

What Is Not Established?

The record does not establish that:

  • Ratner participated in Epstein’s trafficking operation.
  • Ratner sexually abused anyone introduced by Epstein.
  • Ratner visited Little Saint James.
  • Ratner knew the purpose of the Snow White costume.
  • Ratner authorized Epstein to use his name.
  • Ratner requested photographs of the woman.
  • Ratner participated in the later Snow White encounter involving Staley.
  • Ratner knew that Epstein was allegedly exploiting young women through modeling or entertainment opportunities.
  • Ratner knew about Brunel’s alleged sexual crimes.
  • The unidentified women in the photographs were minors.
  • Every proposed dinner or contact attempt resulted in a meeting.
  • Ratner was charged with an Epstein related crime.

Key Findings

The documented relationship extends beyond a single photograph. Ratner appears across travel, contact, photographic, social, and communication records connected to Epstein.

Ratner’s name had practical value to Epstein. It supplied Hollywood credibility when Epstein proposed photographing a young woman in a Snow White costume.

The Snow White email does not implicate Ratner in the later sexual encounter. It shows Epstein using Ratner’s identity and film project as part of the setup.

The photographs and reported flight records conflict with the broadest interpretation of Ratner’s statement that he did not know Epstein. They do not necessarily disprove his narrower claim that no personal relationship developed.

Ratner’s connection to Brunel is visually documented but poorly explained. The context, date, and purpose of their photographed interactions remain unknown.

No known Epstein survivor has publicly accused Ratner of abuse through Epstein.

Questions That Remain

  • What are the exact dates and locations of every photograph involving Ratner?
  • Who are the women whose faces were concealed?
  • Who took the photographs?
  • Did Ratner visit Epstein’s townhouse more than once?
  • What was the purpose of Ratner’s three reported flights?
  • Why did Epstein possess five Ratner telephone numbers?
  • Why was Epstein attempting to reach Ratner in December 2010?
  • Did Ratner attend the proposed dinner?
  • What was Ratner’s relationship with Brunel?
  • Did Ratner know about Epstein’s Snow White message?
  • Did Epstein possess photographs of the woman wearing the costume?
  • Did Epstein discuss the woman with Ratner?
  • Why did Siegal tell Epstein that Ratner loved him?
  • What story did Epstein want to tell Weingarten when the allegations against Ratner became public?
  • Did investigators interview Ratner about Epstein, Brunel, or the photographs?
  • Did Ratner provide a complete account of his flights and visits before the images were released?
