Ian Osborne

Ian Osborne

Snapshot

Ian Osborne is a British investor, communications adviser, political connector, and founder of the technology investment firm Hedosophia.

Released records show that Osborne developed a significant professional and financial relationship with Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein’s 2008 conviction and sex offender registration.

Osborne worked with journalist Michael Wolff on a project intended to reshape Epstein’s public identity, website, messaging, and Google search results. The correspondence included a client agreement, defined goals, proposed measurements of success, a timeline, and discussions with Epstein attorney Darren Indyke.

The relationship extended well beyond reputation work.

Epstein helped Osborne develop Hedosophia and participated in investment activity involving the technology company Jawbone. Corporate records identified Osborne as a vice president of Epstein controlled Mort, Inc., with authority connected to the Jawbone investment and a reported right to receive a percentage of the investment profits.

Osborne also worked with Epstein on an unsuccessful 2012 influence campaign known as Project Jes. The campaign sought to promote Jes Staley as a candidate to lead Barclays by approaching powerful figures in British government, banking, finance, and media.

Osborne visited Epstein’s private island in April 2012 and remained in regular contact with Epstein through calls, meetings, investment discussions, and introductions.

The evidence does not establish that Osborne participated in Epstein’s sexual abuse or trafficking. It does establish that he provided reputation assistance, political access, corporate influence work, and investment services to Epstein after Epstein’s conviction.

Who Is Ian Osborne?

Ian Osborne is a British businessman who built his career by connecting political leaders, investors, technology founders, media executives, and major pools of private capital.

According to his official Havas biography, Osborne graduated from King’s College London and the London School of Economics in 2005.

Early in his career, he advised Michael Bloomberg, the founder of Bloomberg LP and former mayor of New York City.

In 2009, Osborne established Osborne and Partners, a private consultancy serving a limited group of wealthy, corporate, and government clients. DST Global, the investment firm associated with Yuri Milner, became one of its clients.

Osborne later helped DST pursue investments in companies including Spotify and Alibaba.

In 2012, he established Hedosophia, which developed into an influential and highly secretive technology investment firm.

His later work included partnerships with investor Chamath Palihapitiya involving special purpose acquisition companies. These corporate vehicles raised money from investors and used the funds to acquire private companies and bring them into public markets.

As of 2026, Havas identifies Osborne as a nonexecutive director, a member of its Corporate Governance, Nominations and Remuneration Committee, and a director or founder of several investment and holding companies.

Meeting Jeffrey Epstein

The exact date Osborne first met Epstein has been reported differently. The surviving evidence shows that they were communicating and arranging meetings by 2011.

The relationship developed after Epstein had pleaded guilty to Florida offenses, including procurement of a person under 18 for prostitution, served a custodial sentence, and registered as a sex offender.

That timeline is central.

Osborne did not meet an individual whose criminal history was unknown and hidden. He developed the documented professional relationship after Epstein’s conviction was publicly available.

The correspondence shows that Epstein and Osborne communicated about:

  1. Epstein’s reputation
  2. Website development
  3. Google search results
  4. Political and corporate introductions
  5. Jes Staley
  6. Peter Thiel
  7. Yuri Milner
  8. Technology investments
  9. Hedosophia
  10. Jawbone
  11. Possible investment opportunities
  12. Meetings in New York, Paris, and the United States Virgin Islands

The Epstein Reputation Project

One of Osborne’s earliest documented projects for Epstein involved rebuilding Epstein’s public identity online.

Osborne worked with Michael Wolff on the project.

In October 2011, Epstein wrote that it might be time to redo his online pages but that he had been attempting to remain quiet publicly.

Wolff responded that the process should begin with strategy, goals, story, identity, and message before moving into design and structure.

Osborne agreed and added that the project needed to focus on Google.

EFTA01987731 preserves this discussion.

The document proves that Osborne and Wolff were not merely discussing graphic design. They were discussing how Epstein should be understood by the public and what people would find when they searched for him.

The email does not establish that every proposed change was published.

Client Agreement and Measures of Success

The reputation project developed beyond an informal conversation.

EFTA00915695 is an email from Osborne to Epstein with Michael Wolff copied. The email refers to a client agreement and a document concerning Epstein.

Osborne stated that the material followed their earlier discussion and included measures for evaluating what they were attempting to accomplish.

The evidence establishes that Osborne proposed a structured client relationship. It does not establish the final payment amount or prove that every proposed service was completed.

By January 2012, Osborne sent Epstein an updated plan and timeline.

EFTA00927217 includes the updated plan as an attachment and states that Osborne had discussed it extensively with Wolff.

Osborne described the timeline as fast but achievable.

EFTA01842794 preserves another copy of the exchange. It records Osborne saying that the work did not obligate them to publish a finished site and that the process itself would help develop Epstein’s story and strategy.

This distinction matters. The project’s value was not limited to a website. It provided Epstein with a structured reputation plan that could be used across media, philanthropy, public relations, and future online content.

Darren Indyke and the Business Arrangement

The documents show that Epstein’s attorney Darren Indyke was involved in the proposed contractual arrangement.

EFTA02031092 records Osborne saying that he was sending Indyke the same client agreement and information previously discussed in Paris.

Osborne also said that he would send comments from another participant to Epstein for advice about what to accept and what to resist.

The document establishes that the proposal involved contractual and legal coordination. It does not establish that Indyke approved every element of the plan.

The presence of an attorney in correspondence does not automatically make every message legally privileged. Privilege depends on the purpose, participants, confidentiality, and applicable law.

What the Reputation Work Was Intended to Change

Epstein’s criminal record dominated internet searches after his guilty plea and sex offender registration.

A successful reputation campaign could attempt to replace or push down those results with content about:

  1. Science
  2. Philanthropy
  3. Education
  4. Technology
  5. Wealth management
  6. Academic conferences
  7. Relationships with prominent scientists
  8. Relationships with political leaders
  9. Investments in emerging companies
  10. Claims about intellectual curiosity

The Osborne and Wolff emails do not use the phrase search suppression in every exchange. However, they explicitly identify Google, identity, message, story, website pages, strategy, goals, and success measurements as elements of the project.

That is documented reputation management.

Project Jes

In 2012, Osborne and Epstein participated in an effort known as Project Jes.

The goal was to promote Jes Staley as a candidate to become chief executive of Barclays after the departure of Bob Diamond during the Libor scandal.

Staley had held senior roles at JPMorgan Chase and maintained a longstanding relationship with Epstein.

Emails concerning Project Jes became public during Staley’s challenge to a Financial Conduct Authority decision banning him from senior financial positions.

The campaign contemplated approaching government officials, Bank of England figures, Barclays insiders, financiers, and media power brokers who might influence the selection.

Barclays chose Antony Jenkins in 2012. Staley did not become Barclays chief executive until 2015.

Staley said he did not know about the 2012 campaign.

The Project Jes Emails

EFTA00712259 contains an exchange in which Epstein offered negative assessments of other potential Barclays candidates.

Osborne replied that he believed the competitive environment was favorable for Staley.

The document proves that Osborne and Epstein evaluated the candidate field together. It does not establish that their assessments were accurate or that Barclays relied upon them.

EFTA00712264 contains Osborne’s response and discussion of Staley’s chances.

EFTA00712858 continues the Project Jes discussion and schedules an evening meeting between Osborne and Epstein.

EFTA00712930 confirms that Osborne planned to meet Epstein that evening.

These records demonstrate active coordination rather than a single speculative email.

Targets of the Influence Campaign

Evidence presented during the Staley tribunal described Osborne as proposing outreach to senior British officials and powerful financial figures.

The possible targets reportedly included:

  1. George Osborne, then Chancellor of the Exchequer
  2. Mervyn King, then Governor of the Bank of England
  3. Senior Bank of England officials
  4. Mike Rake, then deputy chair of Barclays
  5. Rupert Murdoch
  6. Barclays insiders

The Guardian’s report on Project Jes quotes Osborne as saying he was ready to advocate for their friend while waiting for Epstein’s instructions.

The evidence does not establish that every person considered for outreach was contacted or acted on Osborne’s request.

It does establish that Osborne represented himself as able to reach senior figures and intended to use those relationships to promote Staley.

Earlier Staley Introductions

The Osborne and Epstein correspondence concerning Staley began before Project Jes.

EFTA00719915 is an October 2011 email in which Osborne told Epstein that he had mentioned Staley to Yuri Milner and that Milner was interested in meeting him.

Osborne explained that the connection could be useful because Milner knew Jimmy Lee and had met Jamie Dimon.

The document proves that Osborne used Epstein as part of an introduction network involving Staley and influential financial figures.

EFTA01987336 contains another copy of this communication.

EFTA00426491 shows Osborne asking Epstein’s office for Staley’s telephone number or email address following a discussion with Epstein.

EFTA02182263 contains the resulting contact exchange.

Together, these records show that Osborne and Epstein were brokering financial introductions before the Barclays campaign.

Staley’s Later Regulatory Case

The Financial Conduct Authority later concluded that Staley had approved misleading statements about the nature and duration of his relationship with Epstein.

Staley challenged the decision.

In 2025, the United Kingdom Upper Tribunal dismissed Staley’s challenge.

The Financial Conduct Authority’s official statement says the evidence showed that Staley and Epstein had a close relationship and remained in contact later than represented to the regulator.

The tribunal upheld the prohibition on Staley holding senior financial management roles. His financial penalty was reduced to approximately £1.1 million because Barclays had already withheld substantial deferred compensation.

The regulatory decision concerned Staley’s representations to the FCA. It did not find that Osborne participated in Epstein’s sexual crimes.

Project Jes was relevant because it demonstrated Epstein’s willingness to use Osborne and his network to advance Staley’s career.

The Development of Hedosophia

Osborne established Hedosophia in 2012.

The name combines Greek terms associated with pleasure and wisdom.

Released correspondence shows that Epstein advised Osborne during the investment firm’s formative period.

The Financial Times investigation into Hedosophia’s origins reported that Epstein helped Osborne think through the firm’s structure, strategy, and early investments.

Osborne later said Epstein was never a formal investor in Hedosophia and expressed regret over the relationship.

The surviving documents nevertheless demonstrate that Epstein had meaningful involvement in investment discussions connected to Osborne’s emerging business.

Jawbone and Mort, Inc.

One of the clearest financial relationships involved AliphCom, the company known through its Jawbone consumer technology products.

Epstein used a company called Mort, Inc. in connection with the investment.

EFTA00934092 contains a May 2012 email from Epstein to Osborne. Epstein told Osborne that:

  1. The company would be called Mort.
  2. Osborne would be a signatory.
  3. Mort’s sole investment would be Jawbone.
  4. Osborne would receive 30 percent of the profits after return of capital.

This is direct evidence of a proposed financial arrangement between Epstein and Osborne.

It does not establish the final amount Osborne received or whether the investment ultimately generated distributable profits.

Osborne’s Position at Mort

Corporate documents identify Osborne as a vice president of Mort.

EFTA00300260 is part of a Jawbone investment agreement. The signature pages identify Hedosophia Alpha Limited as an investor and Osborne as its director.

The same document set identifies Mort, Inc. as an investor and Osborne as its vice president.

This proves that Osborne held a formal title within an Epstein controlled investment entity for purposes of the transaction.

It does not establish that Osborne managed every aspect of Mort or held an ownership interest in the company.

EFTA01110734 contains a letter addressed to Osborne at I.W. Osborne BVI Limited concerning Mort’s transaction with AliphCom.

EFTA01118760 includes Mort corporate authorizations connected to the investment.

EFTA01176724 contains an additional copy of the formal transaction documentation.

These are stronger than informal calendar records. They document an actual corporate and investment role.

Jawbone Financing Discussions

EFTA01882783 contains Osborne’s transmission of principal Jawbone financing documents to Epstein.

Osborne wrote that an investment of approximately $20 million might be possible if they acted quickly, with at least $15 million appearing available.

Epstein suggested asking whether Bill Gates might want to invest.

The document proves that Osborne supplied Epstein with significant investment material and treated him as an active participant in the opportunity.

It does not prove that Gates was contacted or invested.

EFTA00713081 records Osborne telling Epstein that his credibility was at risk and that he needed to know if Epstein wanted to withdraw.

The email shows that Osborne had represented Epstein’s participation to others involved in the transaction.

EFTA00712801 discusses efforts to satisfy Mort’s requested changes without requiring all other Jawbone investors to approve major amendments.

EFTA00942607 contains another copy of that investment update.

EFTA00942703 documents further communication concerning the Jawbone and Mort transaction.

EFTA02006866 records Osborne sending Epstein news he considered positive for Jawbone.

Together, the documents show an ongoing investment relationship, not a single referral.

Hedosophia Investment Documents

Several released legal agreements identify Hedosophia Alpha Limited as an investor and Osborne as its director.

EFTA01120938 includes a preferred stock purchase agreement signed for Hedosophia Alpha Limited by Osborne.

EFTA01107056 includes an investor rights agreement involving Hedosophia Alpha Limited.

EFTA00300260 includes voting and transaction documents identifying Hedosophia and Mort as investors.

These records establish Osborne’s formal investment role and the proximity between Hedosophia and Epstein’s Mort within the Jawbone transaction.

They do not establish that Epstein owned Hedosophia.

Other Technology Opportunities

Osborne sent Epstein information concerning other technology investments.

EFTA00933066 contains a forwarded Zalando company presentation and business case involving Osborne.

The document proves that information about the potential investment reached Epstein’s records. It does not establish that Epstein invested in Zalando.

EFTA02697633 contains additional material concerning the Zalando investment proposal.

Osborne also helped connect Epstein with technology figures including Peter Thiel and Sean Parker.

EFTA00423413 includes possible meetings involving Osborne, Parker, and Thiel.

EFTA00308108 contains additional scheduling notes concerning possible meetings.

EFTA02155521 records a reminder to contact Osborne regarding Peter Thiel.

EFTA02566332 contains correspondence about arranging a meeting with Thiel.

These records show Osborne acting as an access broker. They do not prove wrongdoing by Parker or Thiel.

Visit to Little St. James

Emails document Osborne arranging a visit to Epstein’s private island in April 2012.

EFTA02015460 contains Osborne’s travel information for a trip through St. Thomas and a planned visit to the island.

EFTA02011601 records Osborne asking whether it would be convenient to visit, with plans to arrive in St. Thomas and leave the following afternoon.

EFTA01872043 contains another copy of the travel exchange.

EFTA02016506 discusses another traveler being on the same flight.

These emails provide strong evidence that a trip was planned and accepted.

They do not establish what Osborne observed, whom he encountered, or whether he had knowledge of criminal activity on the island.

A visit to Little St. James is evidence of access and association. It is not, by itself, evidence of participation in abuse.

Regular Calls and Meetings

Epstein’s office repeatedly scheduled calls and meetings with Osborne.

EFTA02184871 records a July 2011 breakfast.

EFTA00426560 documents Osborne arranging a meeting with Epstein and Michael Wolff in October 2011.

EFTA02181854 places Osborne on Epstein’s schedule for an October 2011 meeting.

EFTA02167952 confirms Osborne’s attendance at a June 2012 lunch.

EFTA02158211 records a September 2012 appointment.

EFTA02151790 records a December 2012 appointment.

EFTA00974937 documents an effort to arrange contact while Osborne was in New York in October 2013.

EFTA02113778 records a planned 2014 call while Osborne was in Spain.

These documents establish recurring contact. They do not establish the substance of every meeting.

Osborne’s Access Network

Osborne’s value to Epstein came partly from his ability to reach people in several overlapping worlds.

The documentary record and public biographies connect Osborne with:

  1. Michael Bloomberg
  2. Yuri Milner
  3. Peter Thiel
  4. Sean Parker
  5. Jes Staley
  6. George Osborne
  7. Mervyn King
  8. Rupert Murdoch
  9. Boris Johnson
  10. David Cameron
  11. Mark Zuckerberg
  12. Travis Kalanick
  13. Chamath Palihapitiya
  14. Major technology founders and investors

The Financial Times profile of Osborne describes him as a discreet power broker whose influence extended across politics, finance, media, and technology.

Being connected to Osborne does not imply involvement with Epstein. The significance lies in the access Osborne could offer Epstein after Epstein’s conviction.

Osborne and Reputation Laundering

Epstein’s post conviction strategy depended on replacing the public identity of convicted sex offender with identities that were more attractive to elite institutions.

These included:

  1. Science patron
  2. Technology investor
  3. Philanthropist
  4. Financial adviser
  5. Political insider
  6. Intellectual host
  7. University donor
  8. Connector of powerful people

Osborne’s work touched several parts of that effort.

He helped plan Epstein’s website and Google strategy. He involved Michael Wolff in developing Epstein’s story. He participated in investments that presented Epstein as a technology financier. He discussed introductions to prominent figures. He helped Epstein attempt to shape the leadership of a major bank.

This is why Osborne belongs in EpsteinWiki’s reputation management and enabler documentation.

The evidence does not show Osborne erasing Epstein’s conviction from court records. It shows him helping construct alternative narratives and relationships that could overshadow it.

Osborne’s Response

According to the Financial Times, Osborne has expressed regret over his association with Epstein.

Osborne has said Epstein did not formally invest in Hedosophia and has disputed interpretations suggesting the two firms were a joint venture.

Those statements should be included in a fair account.

They do not erase the primary records identifying Osborne as a Mort vice president, a signatory, a potential recipient of investment profits, a participant in Project Jes, a visitor to the island, and a provider of reputation assistance.

The proper question is not whether Epstein formally owned Hedosophia. The evidence supports the narrower conclusion that Epstein advised Osborne, participated alongside his firm in transactions, and helped Osborne during the early development of his investment activities.

What Osborne Is Doing Now

Osborne continues to work in technology investment and corporate governance.

His current Havas biography identifies him as:

  1. Cofounder and director of Hedosophia
  2. Nonexecutive director of Havas
  3. Member of the Havas Corporate Governance, Nominations and Remuneration Committee
  4. Founder and director of Connaught International Limited
  5. Director of Airwallex
  6. Director of PolyAI
  7. Board member of the Perelman Performing Arts Center
  8. Participant in several other investment and holding companies

The same biography credits him with investments involving Spotify, TransferWise, and Alibaba.

The 2025 and 2026 disclosures concerning Epstein have therefore emerged while Osborne remains professionally active in finance, technology, communications, and corporate governance.

  13. Osborne planned and apparently undertook a visit to Epstein’s private island in 2012.
  14. Osborne served as a connection point between Epstein and influential technology and financial figures.

What the Evidence Does Not Prove

The evidence does not establish that:

  1. Osborne participated in Epstein’s sexual abuse or trafficking.
  2. Osborne witnessed abuse on Little St. James.
  3. Epstein owned Hedosophia.
  4. Epstein invested directly in every company discussed with Osborne.
  5. Osborne received the proposed 30 percent profit share.
  6. Every Project Jes target was contacted.
  7. Project Jes caused Staley’s eventual appointment to Barclays in 2015.
  8. Staley knew about the 2012 campaign.
  9. Every scheduled meeting occurred.
  10. Every person Osborne introduced to Epstein knew about Epstein’s criminal conduct.
  11. Every proposed reputation strategy was implemented.
  12. Osborne successfully removed accurate reporting about Epstein from Google.
