Sleuth Report: Karyna Shuliak’s Expanded Role in Jeffrey Epstein’s Final Decade
Overview
Newly released records portray Karyna Shuliak as far more than Jeffrey Epstein’s girlfriend. Emails, financial documents, immigration records, fertility paperwork, travel records, and estate planning documents show that Shuliak occupied a deeply integrated position within Epstein’s private life.
Shuliak communicated with Epstein’s employees, handled medical and administrative requests, received extensive financial support, coordinated assistance for her family, and participated in discussions about preserving Epstein’s sperm.
Epstein also planned to leave Shuliak a substantial inheritance that included money, luxury properties, islands, diamonds, and a ring described as having been given in contemplation of marriage.
These records establish extraordinary access and financial dependence. They do not establish that Shuliak participated in Epstein’s sexual abuse or trafficking operation. Shuliak has not been criminally charged in connection with Epstein’s offenses.
The Lisa Tait Investigation
In The Woman Closest to Jeffrey Epstein, Lisa Tait examines records showing the breadth of Shuliak’s role during Epstein’s final decade.
The report describes Shuliak as an intermediary who handled sensitive personal matters, fertility arrangements, family finances, immigration paperwork, education, medical care, and communication with longtime Epstein assistant Lesley Groff.
The records support the conclusion that Shuliak became one of Epstein’s most trusted personal contacts. However, describing her as the single closest person to Epstein remains an interpretation rather than a formally established fact.
Who Is Karyna Shuliak?
Karyna Shuliak is a Belarusian born dentist who reportedly met Epstein around 2009.
Epstein helped finance her education and professional development. She attended Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine and later obtained a dental license.
Released correspondence indicates that Epstein and his contacts assisted with her education, immigration status, professional licensing, travel, housing, and personal expenses.
Shuliak later lived at 301 East 66th Street, a building connected to Epstein’s businesses, employees, guests, models, and trafficking survivors.

Epstein’s Last Known Telephone Call
Shuliak was reportedly the final person Epstein called before he was found dead at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on August 10, 2019.
The call has received intense scrutiny because Epstein was being held on federal sex trafficking charges and had recently been removed from suicide watch.
The available records establish that Shuliak was a major personal contact during Epstein’s detention. Her telephone records were sought by federal investigators immediately after his death.
An FBI subpoena tracking record identifies a person listed as “Katrina Shuliac,” apparently a misspelling of Karyna Shuliak. The record indicates that an AT&T subpoena was issued on August 11, 2019.

The existence of the call does not establish that Shuliak had advance knowledge of Epstein’s death. No released evidence reviewed for this report establishes such knowledge.
Epstein’s Estate Plans for Shuliak
Estate planning documents show that Epstein intended Shuliak to become his largest individual beneficiary.
According to reporting based on the 1953 Trust, Epstein planned to leave Shuliak approximately $100 million and several major properties, including:
- His Manhattan townhouse
- His Paris apartment
- Zorro Ranch in New Mexico
- Little Saint James
- Great Saint James
- A large diamond ring
- Multiple loose diamonds
A handwritten notation described a 32.73 carat diamond ring as having been given to Shuliak “in contemplation of marriage.”
Epstein signed his final will on August 8, 2019, two days before his death. His assets were transferred into the 1953 Trust.
These plans did not result in Shuliak receiving the promised fortune. Epstein’s estate became subject to legal claims, asset restrictions, administration expenses, and survivor compensation.
The important point is what the estate documents reveal about Epstein’s intentions. He expected Shuliak to receive a dominant share of his personal wealth and properties.
The Sperm Banking Records
One of the most unusual parts of the documentary record concerns Epstein’s efforts to preserve sperm.
In 2016, Shuliak communicated with Epstein about the requirements for freezing sperm. She explained that he would need a medical prescription and would have to visit the facility.
Epstein later contacted urologist Harry Fisch and asked where he could bank sperm. Fisch referred him to California Cryobank.
Epstein forwarded the information to Shuliak and instructed her to obtain the paperwork. Shuliak then sent forms to Lesley Groff and wrote that Epstein wanted Groff to complete them.

Signed California Cryobank Agreements
The released records include California Cryobank agreements signed by Epstein.
The documents address specimen storage, testing, liability, control, and future disposition. Their existence confirms that the sperm banking discussion progressed beyond a casual question.

A separate 2017 record reportedly documents an order sent to Shuliak for a home sperm testing kit.
The records establish an effort to evaluate or preserve Epstein’s reproductive material. They do not establish that Epstein and Shuliak were actively attempting to conceive a child.
Fertility Questions Require Caution
The correspondence raises questions about whether Epstein was considering future parenthood. However, the evidence does not identify the intended use of the stored sperm.
Possible purposes could have included:
- Fertility preservation
- Medical testing
- Future reproductive planning
- Use with an unidentified partner
- Personal interest without a completed reproductive plan
The fact that Shuliak coordinated paperwork does not prove that she intended to have a child with Epstein.
The safest conclusion is that Epstein pursued sperm banking and entrusted Shuliak and Groff with the administrative process.
Financial Support for Shuliak’s Family
Released financial records show substantial transfers connected to Shuliak’s parents in Belarus.
The records reportedly document at least $80,000 transferred between 2013 and 2016.
The transactions included:
- A $15,000 transfer to Shuliak’s mother in 2013
- A $20,000 transfer to her father in 2013
- A $25,000 transfer to her father in 2014
- A $25,000 transfer involving her parents in 2016
The total of these reported transactions is $85,000.
One record identifies the recipient as Fedor Chouliak, an alternate transliteration of Fedor Shuliak. Shuliak reportedly described the bank account as belonging to her father.
The records document financial support. They do not establish that the transfers were illegal.
Medical Care for Shuliak’s Mother
Epstein also appears to have helped arrange medical care for Shuliak’s mother.
Correspondence reportedly shows Epstein discussing follow up treatment with physician Eva Andersson Dubin, a former Epstein girlfriend who specialized in breast cancer care.
The records also indicate that Epstein financed treatment and helped coordinate visits to the United States.
This assistance illustrates the extent to which Epstein’s support extended beyond Shuliak herself and into her immediate family.
Immigration Assistance
Epstein and his associates helped Shuliak pursue permanent residency in the United States.
Immigration paperwork was prepared by attorney M. Arda Beşkardeş. The records show Epstein’s staff coordinating documents and communications connected to Shuliak’s immigration status.
The immigration files are important because they demonstrate Epstein’s ability to use attorneys, employees, money, and professional contacts to support people within his personal circle.
The documents do not, by themselves, establish immigration fraud.

Education and Professional Support
Epstein financed Shuliak’s dental education and used influential contacts to assist her academic and professional path.
Public reporting has raised questions about whether her Columbia admission followed normal procedures. Any conclusion about misconduct requires direct university and admissions records.
The released files more clearly establish that Epstein paid educational and personal expenses and remained involved in Shuliak’s professional development.
He also made inquiries connected to dental licensing in the United States Virgin Islands.
Financial sponsorship and professional assistance are not inherently unlawful. In this context, they demonstrate the scale of Shuliak’s dependence on Epstein and his continuing influence over her career.
Shuliak’s Operational Access
The correspondence places Shuliak in direct communication with several important members of Epstein’s organization.
These contacts included:
- Lesley Groff
- Richard Kahn
- Household employees
- Medical professionals
- Attorneys
- Travel personnel
- Financial staff
- Members of Epstein’s extended social network
Shuliak relayed Epstein’s instructions, communicated with staff, managed appointments, and handled personal requests.
This activity supports describing her as a private intermediary or personal coordinator. The records do not establish that she held the same operational authority as Ghislaine Maxwell or longtime assistants such as Groff.
A Relationship Marked by Financial Dependence
Private correspondence portrays a relationship involving affection, conflict, financial dependence, and significant power imbalance.
Epstein paid for Shuliak’s education, housing, travel, family support, medical assistance, immigration work, and professional development.
Emails also show disagreements about attention, sex, jealousy, and Shuliak’s commitment to dental school.
Epstein warned her that other women would continue to be present around him. In another exchange, Shuliak described struggling not to cry after Epstein criticized her priorities.
These communications provide context for the relationship. They do not establish whether Shuliak understood the complete scope of Epstein’s criminal conduct.

Fact Check Assessment
The claim that Shuliak occupied a major role in Epstein’s final years is supported by financial, medical, administrative, and estate records.
The claim that she handled sperm banking paperwork is supported by released emails and California Cryobank documents.
The claim that Epstein intended to leave her substantial money, properties, and diamonds is supported by estate planning records.
The amount intended for Shuliak is reported as approximately $100 million in several accounts of the 1953 Trust. Earlier summaries cited different figures. The trust itself and subsequent estate administration should control any final accounting.
The claim that at least $80,000 went to Shuliak’s parents is supported, although the individual reported transactions total at least $85,000.
The documents establish that Shuliak was deeply embedded in Epstein’s personal affairs. They do not establish criminal participation.
