Howard Lutnick

Howard Lutnick

Howard Lutnick publicly claimed that a disturbing 2005 encounter caused him to avoid Jeffrey Epstein. Released records document later telephone contact, meetings, a family lunch on Little Saint James, shared investments, financial communications, philanthropic overlap, political invitations, and direct correspondence continuing through 2018.

Key Takeaways

  • Lutnick and Epstein occupied adjoining Manhattan properties. The ownership history of Lutnick’s townhouse also passed through entities previously connected to Leslie Wexner and Epstein.
  • Lutnick said that Epstein made a sexually suggestive comment during a 2005 visit and that he immediately decided never to be in a room with Epstein again.
  • A 2009 message says that Lutnick wanted Epstein’s telephone number.
  • Numerous 2011 records document returned calls, scheduling through assistants, and an in person meeting entered on Epstein’s calendar as “Drinks w/Howard Lutnick.”
  • Lutnick acknowledged the 2011 meeting but said it concerned scaffolding between the adjoining properties. He disputed the calendar’s description of the meeting as drinks.
  • Epstein’s staff initiated contact about Lutnick’s Caribbean travel in November 2012. Lutnick then emailed Epstein directly, asked for directions for his boat captain, identified the children in his traveling party, and accepted lunch on Little Saint James.
  • Lutnick later confirmed that he, his wife, their children, their nannies, and another family spent approximately one or two hours on the island.
  • A Justice Department photograph shows Lutnick with Epstein at the island. The photograph temporarily disappeared from the government portal before being restored.
  • Four days after the island lunch, according to the date printed on the agreement, Lutnick and Epstein signed for different entities participating in the same AdFin Solutions investment. Lutnick denied knowing that Epstein was another investor.
  • Epstein possessed Cantor related investment and transaction materials and reviewed proposals involving Cantor affiliated entities, intermediaries connected to Prince Andrew, and foreign investors.
  • Epstein directly asked Lutnick about AdFin’s business prospects in 2018. Lutnick personally responded.
  • Invitations involving Lutnick continued to reach Epstein, including a 2015 Hillary Clinton fundraiser, a 2017 Brioni opening, and a UJA Federation dinner honoring Lutnick.
  • Epstein authorized a $50,000 donation through Gratitude America for the UJA dinner honoring Lutnick and Lee Fixel. Lutnick denied soliciting or acknowledging the donation.
  • The Lutnicks appeared on Dubin Breast Center benefit materials that also circulated to Epstein. Lutnick confirmed supporting the center financially.
  • A résumé identified as belonging to a Lutnick nanny reached Epstein’s accountant in 2013. Lutnick denied knowledge of the communication.
  • Lutnick testified that he met Ghislaine Maxwell once at a philanthropic or scientific event and believed she attended as Leon Black’s guest.
  • An FBI intake recorded financial allegations involving Lutnick, Cantor Fitzgerald, and BGC. The intake is a record of a tip, not proof. The FBI stated that it did not open an investigation from the allegations.
  • In 2025, Lutnick called Epstein “the greatest blackmailer ever.” In 2026, he said this was speculation and that he no longer believed it.
  • Lutnick described three in person meetings with Epstein over fourteen years as “meaningless and inconsequential.” The released record documents additional indirect, institutional, financial, and philanthropic intersections beyond those three meetings.

Overview

Howard Lutnick spent more than four decades at Cantor Fitzgerald before becoming the forty first United States Secretary of Commerce in 2025. He joined Cantor after graduating from Haverford College and eventually became the firm’s president, chairman, and chief executive.

Lutnick became nationally known after 658 Cantor Fitzgerald employees, including his brother Gary, were killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks. His public profile became closely associated with Cantor’s recovery, charitable fundraising, and assistance provided to victims’ families.

His Epstein connection received renewed attention because Lutnick offered a vivid and apparently categorical account of rejecting Epstein.

During an October 2025 appearance on the New York Post’s Pod Force One, Lutnick said Epstein invited him and his wife to the adjoining Epstein mansion around 2005. During a tour, they encountered a massage table surrounded by candles. According to Lutnick, Epstein made a suggestive comment about receiving “the right kind of massage.”

Lutnick said he and his wife left and decided that he would never be in a room with Epstein again. He further said that he was never with Epstein socially, for business, or through philanthropy.

Records released in 2026 contradicted the ordinary meaning of that account. They documented attempts to communicate after Epstein’s 2008 conviction, an in person meeting in 2011, a social visit to Little Saint James in 2012, shared participation in an investment, philanthropic and fundraising intersections, and direct correspondence in 2018.

Lutnick did not dispute the authenticity of the central contacts when he later appeared before Congress. Instead, he characterized the meetings as brief and insignificant, denied knowing about some institutional intersections, and argued that his original statement meant that he never developed a personal or professional relationship with Epstein.

The evidence therefore presents two distinct questions.

The first is whether Lutnick participated in Epstein’s sexual crimes. The public record reviewed here does not establish that he did.

The second is whether Lutnick accurately described the duration and nature of his contact with Epstein. The released records show that his original public description omitted significant later interactions.

Identity Verification

The records identify the same Howard W. Lutnick who led Cantor Fitzgerald and later became Commerce Secretary.

The identification is supported by:

  • References to Cantor Fitzgerald and its Park Avenue office.
  • Lutnick’s adjoining East 71st Street residence.
  • References to his wife, Allison Lutnick.
  • References to his four children and family travel.
  • Messages involving his assistant Matthew Gilbert.
  • His Cantor affiliated investment vehicle.
  • The “HWL” email address that Lutnick authenticated during his congressional interview.
  • Invitations identifying him as host, honoree, or Cantor chairman.
  • A photograph authenticated by CBS News and acknowledged during congressional questioning.

Lutnick testified that messages ending with “HWL” represented communications he personally wrote. He distinguished those messages from emails sent under his name by Matthew Gilbert or other staff.

The identity is not reasonably disputed.

Documented Epstein Connection

The adjoining Manhattan properties

Lutnick purchased 11 East 71st Street in 1997 or 1998, depending on whether the contract or recorded transfer date is used. Epstein occupied the adjoining mansion at 9 East 71st Street.

The earlier ownership chain of 11 East 71st Street passed through structures connected to Leslie Wexner and Epstein. Public property reporting indicates that Epstein appeared as a trustee during an earlier transfer before the property passed to the Comet Trust and then to Lutnick.

A government property report, EFTA01305714, also documents nearby properties connected to Epstein’s residence. It is supporting location evidence, not a substitute for the New York deed records.

During his congressional interview, Lutnick said he bought the townhouse from Charles de Gunzburg. He repeatedly said he did not recall knowing when he agreed to purchase it that Epstein had previously appeared in the property’s ownership history.

The adjoining properties provide a credible reason for occasional communication about construction, scaffolding, security, or access. They do not explain the later island lunch, AdFin correspondence, or philanthropic intersections.

The 2005 coffee and townhouse visit

Lutnick testified that Epstein’s staff invited him and his wife for coffee shortly after the Lutnicks moved into their home in 2005.

According to Lutnick, the visit lasted approximately ten or fifteen minutes before Epstein offered a tour. Epstein opened a room that contained a massage table. Lutnick asked how often Epstein received massages, and Epstein allegedly answered that he received them every day and received “the right kind.”

Lutnick interpreted the comment as sexual. He said that he and his wife left immediately and agreed that he should avoid Epstein.

No contemporaneous document from 2005 has been identified that records this conversation. The primary source for the incident is Lutnick’s own account, first given publicly in detail during the 2025 podcast and repeated during his 2026 congressional interview.

Lutnick’s 2025 description of the relationship

Lutnick’s podcast account went beyond saying that he disliked Epstein or declined to become friends.

He said that he would never again be in a room with Epstein and that he was never with him socially, professionally, or philanthropically.

When congressional investigators confronted him with later records, Lutnick argued that “I” referred to Howard Lutnick acting without his wife. He maintained that the island lunch did not violate his statement because his wife and family were present.

Committee questioners observed that his interpretation was not apparent from his original language. Lutnick declined to say that he regretted failing to mention the later encounters.

The October 2009 contact request

EFTA02438886, dated October 19, 2009, contains a message attributed to Rich Barnett. It says that one of Lutnick’s employees asked whether Lutnick could have Epstein’s telephone number because Lutnick wanted to call him.

This occurred after Epstein’s 2008 Florida conviction.

Lutnick told Congress that Barnett worked for him on construction matters. He did not remember why he wanted Epstein’s number and suggested that it might have concerned the neighboring properties.

The record proves that someone represented Lutnick as seeking contact. It does not establish that Epstein provided the number, that a call occurred, or what Lutnick wanted to discuss.

March and April 2011 call coordination

The 2009 message was not the only attempt to arrange contact.

Several 2011 records show repeated scheduling between the offices:

  • EFTA01869477 says Lutnick was traveling overseas and asks whether Epstein wanted to arrange a call when Lutnick returned.
  • EFTA01869557 records Epstein selecting April 4.
  • EFTA00654552 states that Lutnick returned Epstein’s call.
  • EFTA02191245 contains a reminder for Epstein to call Lutnick and to contact Matthew Gilbert to organize it.
  • EFTA00435530 says Lutnick was available in his office and would be added to Epstein’s call list.

The call list also included Leon Black, Boris Nikolic, Jes Staley, John Brockman, and others. Lutnick’s appearance on the same list does not establish the same type or depth of relationship as the other people named. It does show that his availability was being managed through Epstein’s regular contact system.

The May 1, 2011 meeting

EFTA01868626 says Lutnick would visit Epstein at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.

EFTA02189429 describes the appointment as “Drinks w/Howard Lutnick.”

Related schedule copies include EFTA00307005, EFTA01996521, EFTA02189586, and EFTA02379401.

Lutnick acknowledged that he entered Epstein’s townhouse on May 1. He said he remained in the foyer with a dog while his wife waited outside with another dog. His best recollection was that Epstein wanted to discuss scaffolding that could affect Lutnick’s property.

Lutnick disputed the calendar description and testified, “I did not have drinks.”

The records establish the appointment and Lutnick’s presence. They do not independently establish whether drinks were served or what the conversation concerned.

Initial November 2012 island outreach

The Little Saint James visit did not begin with an accidental encounter between nearby boats.

EFTA02155469 contains a November 2012 message from Epstein’s office stating that Epstein understood Lutnick would be near Saint Thomas during the holidays and wanted to see him.

EFTA02155489 and EFTA02155560 preserve internal discussion about Epstein’s interest in Lutnick’s travel.

EFTA01915242 records a message from Lutnick’s assistant concerning getting together during the holiday period.

These records support Lutnick’s statement that Epstein’s staff knew about his travel plans and initiated contact. They also show that the possibility of meeting was under discussion weeks before the eventual lunch.

Lutnick’s direct island planning email

In EFTA00399317 and EFTA02151286, Lutnick wrote directly to Epstein.

He explained when the group would land in Saint Thomas, asked for Epstein’s exact location for his captain, and asked whether Sunday dinner would work.

Lutnick disclosed that another couple was traveling on his boat and that each couple had four children. He provided the children’s ages, which ranged from seven to sixteen.

The email is important because it was not simply an assistant placing Lutnick on a calendar. It was direct logistical communication from Lutnick to Epstein about bringing a large family group to Epstein’s property.

Epstein proposes Little Saint James

In EFTA00399319, Epstein proposed Saturday or Sunday lunch and identified Little Saint James as the destination.

EFTA01910312 preserves another copy of the exchange.

The records show that Epstein identified his island and suggested lunch after Lutnick asked where his captain should take the party.

Lutnick accepts Sunday lunch

EFTA02152204 records Lutnick accepting Sunday lunch.

Additional calendar alerts in EFTA02152605, EFTA02152627, EFTA02152992, and EFTA02153033 track the scheduling question and specifically describe lunch on “JE’s island.”

The multiple records are substantially duplicative, but they demonstrate that the lunch was actively coordinated across Epstein’s email and calendar systems.

Allison Lutnick and the final arrangements

The planning did not involve Howard Lutnick alone.

Records including EFTA00398732, EFTA01912798, EFTA01912949, and EFTA02521951 contain final scheduling involving Allison Lutnick and Epstein’s staff.

The messages confirm a 1:30 p.m. lunch for Howard, his wife, their children, and the other family traveling with them. The party planned to arrive by boat.

Lutnick later identified the other couple as Michael and Marcy Lehrman. Michael Lehrman worked in senior real estate roles associated with Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC.

The Little Saint James lunch occurred

Lutnick confirmed before Congress that the lunch took place on or around December 23, 2012.

He said the group included:

  • Howard and Allison Lutnick.
  • Their four children.
  • Another couple and their four children.
  • Nannies accompanying the families.

Lutnick said the group stayed together, ate outdoors, did not enter the buildings, and left after approximately one hour. Other congressional reporting described the visit as lasting closer to two hours.

He said he did not see underage people other than the children traveling with his group and did not witness sexual or criminal conduct.

The visit occurred more than four years after Epstein pleaded guilty to Florida charges that included soliciting prostitution from a minor.

The follow up message and Deutsche Bank document

On December 24, EFTA00398744 records Epstein asking an assistant to forward material to “Howard Lutnik” with a message saying it had been nice seeing him.

The message refers to an attachment titled “TopTenDB.pdf,” which appears to concern Deutsche Bank.

Related copies and forwarding records include EFTA00398745, EFTA02152981, and EFTA02153077.

This contemporaneous follow up corroborates that the planned encounter occurred. It also shows Epstein sending Lutnick financial material immediately afterward.

The released message does not establish why the document was sent, whether Lutnick requested it, or what use he made of it.

The island photograph

EFTA01230639 contains a photograph showing Epstein, Lutnick, and other men standing near a coastal overlook.

CBS News authenticated the photograph and identified the location as Epstein’s island. The image is consistent with the documented December 2012 visit.

The file temporarily disappeared from the Justice Department portal. The department said the image belonged to a batch flagged for review because of nudity, although the Lutnick photograph itself did not contain nudity. The image was subsequently restored.

Lutnick testified that he did not communicate with Justice Department or administration officials about removing, restoring, redacting, or reviewing the photograph.

The AdFin Solutions investment

EFTA00289560 contains an agreement involving AdFin Solutions, an advertising technology company.

Epstein signed for Southern Trust Company. Lutnick signed for CVAFH I, an entity associated with Cantor Ventures. The agreement lists multiple investors.

The agreement is dated December 28, 2012, several days after the island lunch. Lutnick’s attorney told Congress that investors may have executed separate signature pages on different dates and argued that reporting had oversimplified the timing.

Lutnick confirmed that Cantor Ventures invested in AdFin. He said he did not invest personally and did not know that Epstein or Southern Trust was another investor.

He also said he found it unusual that Epstein possessed the Cantor signature page. The public record does not yet explain who assembled the final agreement or distributed the complete signature package.

The agreement establishes participation by Epstein controlled and Cantor affiliated entities in the same investment. It does not prove that Epstein and Lutnick negotiated the investment together.

David Mitchell and the AdFin network

David Mitchell appears in correspondence involving Epstein, Lutnick, and AdFin.

Lutnick told Congress that Mitchell was the husband of one of Allison Lutnick’s friends.

EFTA01761627 contains a message in which Mitchell expected to see “H. Lutnick” later.

EFTA01968336 contains a message asking for a view of Lutnick after a meeting involving a person identified as “PA.”

Other records connect Mitchell to AdFin. The released material therefore places him in a more substantive financial and social intersection than Lutnick’s limited description alone might suggest.

The records do not establish that every meeting involving Mitchell, Lutnick, or “PA” concerned Epstein or AdFin.

Documents sent after the island visit

The correspondence did not stop with the December 24 attachment.

EFTA00398076, EFTA02149688, and EFTA02150969 record additional material being forwarded to Lutnick or his office in January 2013.

The available extracts do not provide enough context to determine the purpose of every attachment. They nevertheless add to the documentary record of continued communication after the island lunch.

Cantor, Urramoor, and Prince Andrew

Released files contain proposals, term sheets, attorney communications, and draft agreements involving Cantor affiliated entities and Urramoor Limited, a company associated through British corporate records with Prince Andrew.

A September 2013 thread in EFTA01958916 concerns a “Term Sheet from Cantor Fitzgerald to Mr. T.” The exchanges reached Epstein through intermediary David Stern.

In the correspondence, Epstein criticized the proposal and suggested different economic terms, including a profit split and repayment structure.

A later draft contract appears in EFTA01141453. It concerns a potential referral arrangement between Cantor Opportunities and Urramoor Limited involving foreign investors, institutional capital, and real estate opportunities.

Cantor lawyers Stephen Merkel and John J. Jones appear in the wider correspondence. Epstein does not appear to hold a disclosed formal position at Cantor or Urramoor, yet the records show intermediaries sending him transaction materials and requesting his view.

These records establish Epstein’s access to and commentary on proposed business involving a Cantor affiliate. They do not establish that Lutnick personally appointed Epstein to negotiate, that a completed transaction produced revenue, or that an illegal agreement existed.

Dubin Breast Center overlap

Howard and Allison Lutnick appeared on benefit materials for the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai.

EFTA00527007 contains a 2012 benefit invitation sent to Epstein. Howard and Allison Lutnick were identified among the benefit leadership alongside Eva and Glenn Dubin.

Related copies include EFTA00527459, EFTA00527712, EFTA00646830, and EFTA01187332.

Similar benefit material appears in EFTA01141329, EFTA01733932, EFTA02702727, and EFTA02672763.

Lutnick confirmed that he contributed money to the Dubin Breast Center and knew the Dubins through Mount Sinai. He said he learned about Eva Dubin’s earlier relationship with Epstein only after 2019.

The materials establish philanthropic overlap and that invitations reached Epstein. They do not prove that Lutnick selected Epstein as an invitee, knew whether Epstein attended, or interacted with him at a benefit.

The 2015 Hillary Clinton fundraiser

EFTA00301239 contains an invitation to a November 11, 2015 reception with Hillary Clinton at Cantor Fitzgerald’s Park Avenue offices. Lutnick was identified as the host.

A duplicate appears in EFTA00617176. EFTA02671545 records the invitation being forwarded to Epstein.

Lutnick acknowledged hosting the event. He testified that Matthew Gilbert sent the invitation on his behalf, that he did not understand Clinton to have a relationship with Epstein, and that Epstein did not attend.

The record proves that the invitation reached Epstein. It does not prove attendance.

The 2017 Brioni opening invitation

EFTA00443752 contains an invitation associated with the January 2017 opening of a Brioni flagship store. It states that Lutnick wanted to invite the recipient.

The invitation reached Epstein through his contact network.

Lutnick told Congress that he did not remember the event. No released attendance record reviewed here establishes that Epstein attended or interacted with Lutnick there.

The UJA Wall Street Dinner honoring Lutnick

In 2017, UJA Federation of New York organized a Wall Street Dinner honoring Lutnick and Lee Fixel.

An invitation forwarded by John Paulson appears in EFTA00462552 and EFTA02229721.

Messages including EFTA02229720, EFTA00958981, EFTA02229752, EFTA02229804, and EFTA02229881 document a planned $50,000 contribution.

Epstein directed that the contribution be made through Gratitude America. He declined to use the associated table and suggested that Lutnick could fill the seats.

EFTA00462650 records Epstein’s direction concerning the table.

Lutnick testified that he did not ask Paulson to invite Epstein, solicit the donation, thank Epstein, or interact with him at the event.

The evidence establishes an Epstein controlled donation made in connection with an event honoring Lutnick. It does not establish Lutnick’s prior knowledge or personal involvement in obtaining it.

The 2018 Frick Collection correspondence

Lutnick and Epstein’s properties were located near the Frick Collection. In 2018, proposed construction or expansion at the museum generated correspondence.

EFTA00475742 contains a chain involving Lutnick’s office and Epstein concerning the Frick project.

Lutnick said that messages sent under his full name were commonly handled by Matthew Gilbert and that he did not personally see every communication.

The record establishes that their offices were still communicating in 2018. It does not establish that every message was personally written or reviewed by Lutnick.

The direct 2018 AdFin exchange

EFTA01050772 contains a direct exchange between Epstein and an address identified as “HWL.”

Epstein asked what Lutnick thought AdFin’s prospects were. Lutnick responded that the company was producing revenue and needed to become economically self sufficient during the coming year.

Epstein then asked about buying Lutnick’s guesthouse. Lutnick replied with a reference to the Pierre, which he later described as a joke about an apartment he was renovating at the Pierre Hotel.

Lutnick authenticated the HWL address and confirmed that the response was personally his.

This exchange is particularly significant because it documents direct business related communication six years after the shared AdFin investment and approximately thirteen years after Lutnick said he decided to avoid Epstein.

Lutnick maintained that he did not know Epstein was an AdFin investor, even during this exchange.

The Lutnick nanny résumé

EFTA01954703, dated October 2013, contains a résumé that Richard Kahn described as belonging to a “Lutnick nanny.”

Kahn wrote that he was trying to arrange a time for Epstein and a person named Peter to meet her.

Lutnick testified that he had no knowledge of the communication. He denied directing any nanny to contact Epstein and could not identify whether the person had accompanied the families to Little Saint James.

The document establishes that a résumé described as belonging to a Lutnick nanny reached Epstein’s accountant. It does not establish Lutnick’s involvement or that the proposed meeting occurred.

Lutnick’s encounter with Ghislaine Maxwell

Lutnick testified that he met Ghislaine Maxwell once at an event connected to a scientific or philanthropic institution he remembered as Rockefeller.

He said his best recollection was that Maxwell attended as Leon Black’s guest. Lutnick described the encounter as inconsequential and said he did not remember their conversation.

No evidence reviewed here establishes a sustained relationship between Lutnick and Maxwell.

Lutnick’s statements about Epstein and blackmail

During the 2025 Pod Force One interview, Lutnick speculated that Epstein used surveillance and sexual kompromat to blackmail powerful people. He called Epstein “the greatest blackmailer ever” and suggested that blackmail explained Epstein’s money and favorable treatment.

During his May 2026 congressional interview, Lutnick said he had possessed no direct or indirect knowledge that Epstein made money through blackmail. He characterized his earlier statements as speculation.

When asked whether he still believed Epstein engaged in blackmail, Lutnick said no. He explained that administration officials with access to the details had said otherwise and that he credited their assessment.

He did not publicly identify those officials or explain what evidence they shared with him.

The FBI financial tip

EFTA00020515 is an October 19, 2020 FBI National Threat Operations Center intake.

A caller from the United Kingdom said that he had worked in New York between 2015 and 2017 and witnessed financial irregularities connected to Cantor Fitzgerald or BGC.

The caller alleged:

  • Ponzi activity.
  • Money laundering.
  • Fraud involving charitable activity.
  • A questionable property transaction involving Epstein and Lutnick.
  • Retaliatory or harmful treatment by the company.
  • Possession of documents that had also been submitted to the Internal Revenue Service.

The allegations were later condensed in FBI briefing materials, including EFTA01656152, EFTA01656173, EFTA01656198, and EFTA01660622.

These documents establish that the FBI received and summarized the allegations. They do not establish that the claims were true.

FBI ARMS Reach review

EFTA00173881 documents a January 2025 FBI ARMS Reach records review involving Lutnick.

The record linked the earlier allegations to FBI case references and stated that no investigation had been opened as a result.

ARMS Reach concerns vetting of people expected to be physically near the president. It should not be inaccurately described as Lutnick’s complete Senate confirmation or security clearance investigation.

The document establishes that the FBI knew about the earlier tip and found it during a federal records check. It does not prove or disprove every allegation in the tip.

Legal Status and Evidence Limits

Howard Lutnick has not been charged with participating in Epstein’s sex trafficking operation, sexually abusing a survivor, procuring girls or women for Epstein, or facilitating sexual abuse.

No released survivor statement reviewed for this article identifies Lutnick as an abuser.

The records support the following factual findings:

  • Lutnick and Epstein were neighbors.
  • Lutnick visited Epstein’s Manhattan home in 2005.
  • Someone acting for Lutnick sought Epstein’s telephone number in 2009.
  • Their offices coordinated calls in 2011.
  • Lutnick met Epstein in person in May 2011.
  • Lutnick and his family visited Little Saint James in December 2012.
  • Lutnick and Epstein were photographed together during the island visit.
  • Epstein sent Lutnick financial material following the visit.
  • Epstein controlled and Cantor affiliated entities invested under the same AdFin agreement.
  • Epstein received and commented on Cantor related proposals involving Urramoor.
  • Invitations connected to Lutnick continued reaching Epstein.
  • Epstein financed a $50,000 contribution to an event honoring Lutnick.
  • Lutnick corresponded directly with Epstein about AdFin in 2018.

The records do not establish:

  • That Lutnick participated in sexual abuse.
  • That he witnessed trafficking activity.
  • That the children traveling with his party were separated from their parents or nannies.
  • That Lutnick flew on Epstein’s aircraft. The island records indicate that his party arrived by its own boat.
  • That Epstein attended the 2015 Clinton fundraiser.
  • That Lutnick solicited the 2017 UJA contribution.
  • That Lutnick knew Epstein was an AdFin investor when the agreement was signed.
  • That the Urramoor proposal produced business or payments.
  • That the FBI’s financial allegations were corroborated.

The primary credibility issue concerns the difference between Lutnick’s original public account and the record later released.

His explanation is that he never formed a personal or professional relationship with Epstein and that the later encounters were brief, family accompanied, incidental, or handled through corporate personnel.

The opposing interpretation is that his categorical claim to have avoided any social, business, or philanthropic contact after 2005 was materially incomplete.

That dispute should not be confused with proof of participation in Epstein’s sexual crimes.

Sleuth and Independent Reporting

Ellie Leonard’s examination of Lutnick’s testimony compares his congressional answers with the property history, calendar records, island correspondence, photograph, nanny résumé, AdFin agreement, and philanthropic overlap. Leonard specifically examined Lutnick’s effort to reinterpret “I was never in the room with him” as referring to an encounter without his wife.

Leonard’s May 7 discussion also addressed Lutnick’s testimony, his public blackmail claims, and the political response to the newly released records.

Kait Justice’s investigation of the Cantor and Urramoor materials identified Epstein’s access to proposed transaction terms involving a Cantor affiliated company and Prince Andrew’s corporate network. Justice traced how the proposal changed from a possible joint venture into a referral arrangement and documented Epstein’s comments about financial terms and regulatory exposure.

Kait Justice’s follow up investigation examined the AdFin investor schedule, Cantor general counsel Stephen Merkel, later financial technology ventures, Tether, and potential conflicts involving Lutnick’s government responsibilities and family controlled business interests. The broader conflict analysis extends beyond the direct Epstein record and should be distinguished from proven findings about the Epstein relationship.

Justice’s investigation of prediction markets and government data traced Cantor’s earlier event market operations, AdFin’s proposed technology, Epstein linked investments, and later businesses controlled by the Lutnick family. It raises questions about the overlap between Commerce Department data and private markets tied to Lutnick’s former corporate network. It does not establish that Lutnick altered government data or manipulated a market.

The Butterfly Bureau’s July 28, 2026 review incorporated the Lutnick, Cantor, Epstein investment, prediction market, and government data questions into its wider coverage of the Epstein files.

R. Howard Stone’s document investigation compiled the FBI tip, 2011 calendars, island records, Cantor materials, AdFin documents, philanthropic overlap, and FBI vetting response.

Stone’s congressional witness brief compared Lutnick’s public claims and congressional answers with the underlying EFTA documents. The report identifies duplicate records across Justice Department datasets and separates the uncorroborated FBI tip from the independently documented social and financial contacts.

CBS News documented the AdFin agreement and reported that Epstein and a Cantor affiliated entity acquired stakes under the same transaction.

CBS News also authenticated the island photograph and documented its temporary disappearance from the Justice Department portal.

Reuters documented Lutnick’s island admission and later reported on his closed congressional interview and inability to recall why he agreed to visit the island.
